I am posting this question for my father. He has a Mark II pistol that he would like to mount a red-dot sight onto.
However he does not want to tap the barrel for a rail. He would prefer to use the existing holes from the rear sight.

A) Is there any after market parts that is suggested ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Weigand makes a no drill/tap scope mount for the Mark II that uses the rear sight dovetail slot.

Burris makes a real slick mount for the Mark II that uses the dovetail as well. It's a very tiny mount that mates their Fastfire to the Mark II.

I recently picked up a Bsquare no drill mount for my Mark I. It is a little bulky, but works well. Added benefit, you can still use the original sights with the mount on the weapon.

The only issue I would have on having a Mark drilled and tapped is the expense. It's not like the top strap on a revolver that I would worry about weakening.

Hi there "boles",
This answer may be a little late but I have just seen you question.
I have an older Ruger MKI without the receiver being drilled and tapped
for a rail. I purchased a Weigand "no gunsmithing rail" and it mounted
on my pistol without any problem and it is as solid as a rock.
(here is a link to the Weigand web site)

I hope this helps.
