Mounting a Reflex sight to a Ruger MKII 22 pistol

I have a Ruger MKII SS Govt. Target pistol with 4 3/4 bull barrell. Eyes are getting older and I would like to install either a Leupold or Burris reflex sight in place of the rear sight. Has anyone done this with a reflex sight, was it as simple as just driving the rear sight out of the dovetail. Was there a base needed. Trying to understand what I am up against. Did the front sight need to be removed or was it fine being left in place

I bought a mount specifically for the Fastfire/Ruger Mark pistol combo. http://www.amazon.com/Burris-Fastfire-Mount-fits-Rugger/dp/B000UV3ZPG

Drove the rear sight out. Degreased screws and holes, applied purple Loctite, inserted mount and Fastfire, and then tightened everything down.

I removed the front sight.

Thanks bwraven, can you tell me the specific fastfire you mounted. Sounds fairly simple thanks for the link.

I mounted a FF2. If I had a choice right now, I would go with the FF3 because it is much easier to do a battery change with the FF3.




BTW, I did not have to remove the front sight, I just thought it looked cleaner without it.
