Hey Guys,
At a CAS shoot today one of my Pards was shooting a 22 NR4. Well I had to take a look at it. Low and behold the S/N was 62-00600/62-00700 range. I think. I do know it was a 3 digit 45/8" gun. Now looking at the RENE they didn't make this gun????????? From the RENE NR4 scarce (early known S/N 62-29947).
So what gives???
I will get the the exact s/n. I do know it was a 3 digit #.

Easy to cut the barrel down. I see alot (well 5-6 and heard of a few more) of K/NR4's that were made this way. Just a thought.

Jim, if I'm understanding your question right, the gun was made in 1973 according to my RENE reference and the serial number range you gave. Like you, I saw the note re "NR4 scarce early known s/n 62-29947." But maybe Chad is referring only to the variations listed in that paragraph? (firing pin groove, no Liberty or Warning rollmarks)

Jim,
Here is how I read the reference, just my thoughts and I could be all wet too!

New Model Blued serial # range 62-0001 thru 62-17038 this would include
NR4,NR5 & NR6. The earliest NR4 that has been REPORTED to Chad is
62-29947, that does not mean that a 3 digit gun does not exsist only that
one lower has not been reported. The 4 5/8" & 9 1/2" New Model guns
always are the scarcest models with more 5 1/2" & 6 1/2" guns being made.
I believe the gun you saw IS a NM 3 digit (62-00XXX) and will letter as such. JMO, keep us posted as to your observations.

Hey,
Thanks guys. Ya I see what ya mean on the wording. I'm going to get the full s/n and will give Ruger a call. I don't think it has been cut down. But my pard bought it used so ya never know. Anyway Ruger will confirm.
Thanks,
Jim

Would be very surprising to see an NR4 that early, but maybe the cylinder frame finally went through the process and got that short tube. Ruger concentrated on 5-1/2" and 6-1/2" early on.

So it was a 63 prefix instead of a 62?

Bkat

Yea since it was a 3 digit I was thinking 62 in my post. So how does a 3 digit gun get stamped with a 74 prefix? So is this gun earlier than this one 62-29947? This is to hard
I'm sticking with old models
Jim

PS Well now that I have pulled out my head from where the sun don't shine. I see that the prefix guns start over with the s/ns when the prefix changes.   I'm sticking with non prefix guns
Still had 62 and 3 digit locked in my brain. Beer will do strange things to ya. Besides make ya handsome.
