I was replying to another post pertaining to stainless No 1's and it brought up a question that wasn't that important, but had always intrigued me.

The last three digits of my RMEF rifle serial numbers are 502, with the engraving indicating "2 of 60". Does anyone have access to the serial numbers on any of this series to verify if the last two digits (02) are sequential in build?

Here's my train of thought. Supposedly, there were 60 receivers engraved, with 5 extra made just in case there was a mishap during the engraving process. These 5 examples where-abouts' are "unknown".

So if for chance these serial numbers ran sequential, 501 through 566, it could possibly determine where the 5 unknown are..

For instance, if these numbers ran true for the first 15 and then were off by one, then we'd know that #16 didn't make the engraving grade (so number 16 would show a 17 as the last two digits). Then if we had a much later serial number, say 55 and it showed the last two digits of 59, then we'd account for three more.

Of course, this exercise is all for not if they put the serial number on them after the fact.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

You might be on to something there...somewhat.
The serial number range I have noted on the two or three reported is 133-33526 to 133-55563, but I don't know what the individual numbers were on those.
So by your theory, perhaps there are more than 60.

My serial number is 133-33502.

Curious that the second set of numbers jumped from 33XXX to 55XXX. Kinda throws a wrench in my idea'r.

Like you said, "somewhat"..... May not be worth the investigation.

I do appreciate your reply

Just a cursory web/image search gave me:

133-33586 38 of 60
133-33513 54 of 60

Not that I'm a quitter... but I think this answers my question. I appreciate your replies Chet.

Thank you

A great example of random serial numbers going in for a particular feature.
Would have been more neat if Ruger had went with consecutive serial numbering also, but doesn't always work that way (or somebody didn't think about it). Not only that, but obviously not all of the guns between 133-33513 and 133-33586 are RMEF guns.

I've got no plans today.. I'll poke around and see if I can gather a few more.

I've also got a email sent off to Adams and Adams engravers to see if I can gather any other info....

Wow.... I not only got a message, I got two replies.

according to our records we did 63 are you saying you have all the guns between 133-33502 and 133-33586 #133-33562 was. done for bill Ruger. J Adams.

End Message....

(I did not indicate that I had all the guns, just that I was the very proud owner of #2.).

We did 61 receivers. And out of the 63 we had 2 went back unengraved there was suppose to be more but Bill Ruger stopped the project because they didn't have cases for them ordered and bill got mad and stopped it who ever started the project and yes it was a father and son project.

End Messages.

So there were only 63 stainless receivers sent to Adams and Adams for this run. 60 were made for the RMEF, one was made for Bill himself and two went back.

Cool information !!!!!!

It's situations such as this that one WANTS to do business with them. How cool is it of them to take the time to reply to a nobody. A person who isn't inquiring about business, or a job.... They replied....

Wow...

I'm speechless
