I was replying to another post pertaining to stainless No 1's and it brought up a question that wasn't that important, but had always intrigued me.
The last three digits of my RMEF rifle serial numbers are 502, with the engraving indicating "2 of 60". Does anyone have access to the serial numbers on any of this series to verify if the last two digits (02) are sequential in build?
Here's my train of thought. Supposedly, there were 60 receivers engraved, with 5 extra made just in case there was a mishap during the engraving process. These 5 examples where-abouts' are "unknown".
So if for chance these serial numbers ran sequential, 501 through 566, it could possibly determine where the 5 unknown are..
For instance, if these numbers ran true for the first 15 and then were off by one, then we'd know that #16 didn't make the engraving grade (so number 16 would show a 17 as the last two digits). Then if we had a much later serial number, say 55 and it showed the last two digits of 59, then we'd account for three more.
Of course, this exercise is all for not if they put the serial number on them after the fact.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks
