List is from James Julia website with individual prices. I searched auction for "Elmer Keith" and these are returns I got. Looks like his estate was auction lots 1000 thru 1069....
Julia's website noted, "All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer's premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price."

Awful lot of money to give away, as far as I've heard, the family is not especially well off. Great to be able to pass that much to heirs (less taxes of course if applicable)
I can tell you that you are seeing the final prices and not the bid prices. There are/were discounts depending on how you bid. As I stated in another post I bid a healthy amount on the prototype .44 mag and did not win it. I bid more then the price noted above but someone else went a couple thousand higher. I am not bitter I just did not know the full scale of how these auctions work. I would have won this auction had I known the particulars. Not complaining at all, it was my fault for not understanding the online bid system and the discounts. I was willing to pay $10,000 but was outbid at $12,500. The end cost was much less due to discounts for online bidding. Oh well, live and learn.
Rugerguy: I have to disagree, the one I bid on is the most beautiful flattop Ruger I have ever seen, ever. It was a once in a lifetime chance to own something that there is only one other. It is in the museum. Beautifully engraved, provenance, condition, beautiful grips. Also because it was owned by Elmer Keith but more because it is about as rare as you can get with a Ruger. Prototype Flattop, Engraved, Ivory grips, gold inlay, almost 100% condition. It does not get much better in my uneducated opinion. It was not really about Elmer to me, it was about the gun.

Everyone has a perspective on this; some with more basis in fact and others just opinion. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion.
Museums are hard to do. The Keith Family tried, starting with Elmer's passing in 1984 for at least 10 years. Ted Keith was at the 1989 St. Louis NRA working the Elmer Keith Foundation to try to raise the financial support for a Museum; I visited with him. It takes a lot of money to do this Museum thing and enough financial support never materialized. Then for a short time, the Cabela's Boise Museum worked out. I had the opportunity to visit it once and it was definitely worth the stop. Info I heard was that Cabela's wanted the space for retail and asked the Keith Family to take the collection. Can you imagine the secure storage requirement for this collection now that we have seen it cataloged? Ted Keith is in his 80's; I think the family made a good decision. The realized Auction prices are indicative of the esteem that a serious group of collectors/investors had for Elmer Keith, his life work, and his firearms.

I never meet him, But as a man he was very interesting & considerate to friend of mine ( Harvey Draper & his son Bart Draper, of Draper Knives ). Bart talks about the times they went to Elmer's home & talked guns & knives with him. I am proud to own a little history from Him & a few others!
