Unless the 45 70 is one of the dozen or so that are really #1H models with 24" barrel, I suggest that your tang safety M77 uncataloged 264 mag is a great value gun...........Think there must be far more 45 70 #1S than the gun you own........C'mon, M77 collectors, chime in here and help gramps out....... 8)

There were several different M77s chambered in .264WinMag. Need picture or more info. Is it blued or stainless, wood or synthetic stock, full synthetic or Zytel stock, etc. Is the floor plate engraved?

Is the 1S .45-70 an early one? Is the serial number below 130-05000? Does it have a 'Warning' on the barrel.

Lots of info needed to evaluate both rifles for value.

Generally speaking, they are about equal in value, but depending on exact configuration, features, condition, etc. one could be worth more than the other.

I won't be able to help on a value...but here's what I have on it from the reference...

77R .264 (Ruger model 7719) Special Distributor model (known s/n range 772-13341 to 773-21784 – 1,043 shipped from 1990 to 1991 to Outdoor Sports (OH);

That one used to enjoy quite a nice premium over other "R" models, but not sure in today's market.

Tang safety rifles had few of the options noted. They were blue and and walnut..........

My mistake, I missed the tangy part.

My best guess is $550, but you've got to find a buyer that wants it. Kind of a niche market on them.
