I bought a "new" old model 1969 blackhawk which I guess would be XR3 Red and would like to put some fake ivory grips with correct ruger medallions on it. I know this has been discussed before but do you have any recommendations on which maker might have the best for feel, fit and finish?

me too, this way you get the "best" ivory LOOK, without the price of real ivory, but of course, the same style/size (XR-3 RED) made in or with "holly wood" can give you the same look and I've had some done by Cary, and the price was about the same for either the Tru ivory or the holly wood, flip a coin, BOTH look awesome on the gun..........

I had a look at the shopruger medallions and I couldn't see where they had ones to fit XR3 Red. Which ones would I order for my'69 Blackhawk? The one with the newer medallion that says "Fits the XR grip frame"?

Thanks,
Mike

Actually it may not be so easy for one who is not mechanically inclined. Be aware that you need to drill them out. You can't just punch them out like you can with wood grips. Of course you might get lucky but most of the time you're going to break the grip.

These are the ones you want. Ruger dropped the "red" long ago in any descriptions. It didn't really cause too much confusion until they came out with the New XR3 in 2005. Now they leave most people guessing as you were doing.
