HELP- This is what I need....

I once owned a rimfire rifle, made by ruger, 9 (depending on load) shot (i believe), 22 caliber LR/SR, front stock loaded (like most autoloads, not a magazine) rifle.
Looked very similar to mini-14.

What was the name/model of this gun?

I ask because it was the most accurate squirrel gun I have EVER owned !!!!! and I would like to get another one!

PS. I owned this more than 30 years ago and it was old when I bought it!

Thank for the experts help!!!!!!

If it was a .22lr Ruger rifle it was either:

the 10/22 (detachable mag semi-auto)
the 96/22 (detachable mag lever action)
the 77/22 (detachable mag bolt action)

That's your choices so I too am saying it wasn't a Ruger from your description.

Best guess would be a Marlin Mod. 60 or one of the variations thereof made for Sears, Montgomery Wards, and other Hardware stores...

Yep, I agree not a Ruger, but probably one of the Marlin 99 M1's like this (it looks more like an M1 carbine than a mini-14, but...):

I bought my Marlin 989 M2 (clip magazine rather than tubular mag) in late 1960's, so time frame fits your recollection of your rifle.

I agree they are surprisingly accurate little rifles - I still shoot mine.

I am flustered... I have searched high and low for this weapon and cannot identify it!
Cellar- that wasn't it- very similar but not quite. I have searched the marlins and it has not shown its face there either-

thanks guys.
