Planning to purchase one at some point,to add to my small handgun collection. From what I read,it uses a lot of Ruger Super Blackhawk design points, just stronger, for the large .45-70 round.
Anyone have one of these in 7.5 barrel length and how do you like it?

:D It's not a very small handgun!

I've seen one or two over the years. They're just too "ungainly" for my tastes. I understand they are rather well made, though.

Good Luck in your search.

I have not shot or owned one. I have handled a couple of BFRs in 450 Marlin. They are very large hand guns as you might expect. Fit and finish were quite nice. It's whatever floats your boat - to me, more of a curiosity where I had no desire whatsoever to shoot one.

I had a BFR a few years ago in 480 ruger/475 linbaugh. I thought it to be very well made and surprisingly comfortable to shoot. Traded it for something else I thought I needed at the time, but I would sure like to have another one at some point. A buddy of mine has one in 45-70 and his is also put together very nicely. I have not shot it myself but he says it doesn't beat him up too badly.

I have one and use 45-70 trapdoor loads about 28 grains of XMP 5744 and a 400 grain cast bullet. Made like a excellent watch. Grips are superblackhawks...very heavy...mine is scoped and is very very accurate...

Thanks for the replies! Coming from a long hot rodding background,I like and build big inch stroker engines, and into the handgun hobby, something about that beast attracts me! :)

Picked up the new BFR today. After checking it over,I noticed the muzzle end could have been finished off a touch better...no chamfer at the barrel opening, leaving somewhat of a sharp edge. A little work took care of that.
Those rubber grips have to go. Working on some replacements,as I found a nice slab of well seasoned walnut,in the shed, for that purpose!

Do you think the 45-70 BFR is capable of shooting out to 200 yards with accuracy? I can hit a 10 gallon bucket at 200 with my .44 SRH, but I am looking for a SA revolver that can really punch the rounds out there, more like a hand held revolving carbine.

This may be a dumb question, but can the .45-70 BFR's fire .45 LC and .454 Casull? I only ask because I knew a guy who fired .45 LC and .410 shells in his Trapdoor, and a .454 is just an extended .45 LC.

I have been getting more into the hand cannons, my .44 Mag 9.5" Super Redhawk is getting too "mild" for me, and I'm not much into S&W's anymore, my former need for a .500 S&W has faded since I discovered there's a .500 BFR....... too bad their so dam expensive! I may have to set my sights on a .45-70.

45 Colt and 454 Casull use .452 diameter bullets ...my 45-70 BFR uses .458. The answer is no.
