I couldn't find the original post on these that appeared recently so am starting a new one.
These guns are the ones seen offered by a couple different distributors lately. They are a Vaquero style Single-Six with case color finish frame, steel grip frame and simulated ivory grip panels. Ruger built the original batch in 2003.

Here's what the reference says about those made in 2003:

BNV-224SI and BNV-225SI Special Distributor models. Known s/n ranges 268-22681 to 268-24676 (BNV-224SI) and 268-22484 to 268-24684 (BNV-225SI). A total of 626 BNV-224SI and 599 BNV-225SI were shipped from 2001 to 2003 to AcuSport (OH) and Williams Shooter's Supply (IL). Williams received 76 BNV-224SI and 19 BNV-225SI of the total in 2003.

But....these latest guns are in the 268-57xxx range! Cleanup guns? How could they be with a new serial number like that? The serial number has to be on the gun before it can get its case color finish. Seems like Ruger is building things that aren't cataloged to see how well they go.
Second, these latest guns will be a different variation because they will have the NEWPORT address rollmarked on the bottom of the barrel.
Lastly, I still have not had anybody report any sn's of this new batch. Don't forget me on this one!! It really needs to be documented because I'll guarantee somebody will be asking about them in the future.
Many thanks in advance!!

RF member Weaselmeatgravy provided some sn info to me and these guns are indeed in the 268-57xxx range. They also do have the NEWPORT rollmark on the bottom of the barrel.
My comment above mentioned that I couldn't figure out what would make this a "cleanup" gun, but Bob was correct in mentioning that these have the short steel grip frame, and of course the simulated ivory panels are also short.
So....its hard telling how many of each model will be made.
Still awaiting sn info from others who I know have purchased these.

Too bad they're so expensive.

I really want one of these, but not at price offered :(

When I started collecting Rugers the .256 Hawkeye was selling for $450 to $500 by traders through the Shotgun news. I really wanted one but not at that price. This went on for 6 months or so and then they jumped up to a $1000 from one issue to the next. The two that I had, I ending up paying $900 for one with out the box, added box later for $100. The other I paid $1100 for. I did this because I thought that would go up even more, and I was right. I sold one for $3000 and the other for $2500, years later.

So if you really want one, don't wait too long.

Just an aside here. Was pleased to see Hawkeye SN 315 sell for a decent buy price Y'day, Amoskeag Auction, for $2400, including box and ppwk. Ahhhhhhh, those rascally Hawkeyes............She had to join her immediate Sis, SN 314 8)

Hi Chet,

Here's some info on an observed recent issue:

Serial # 268-575XX and spent case envelope dated SEPT. 22, 2010.
It has a steel XR3RED grip frame, not the short Baby Vaq grip.
Black scrimshaw logo on ivory grips with SR and,
bottom of barrel 'idiot message'.

Be sure to send me a PM of the exact sn if you can. The exact stuff really helps.

My original BNV-224SI had the regular size grips, not the short ones. I thought the short grip frames were only used on the .32 Mag. Vaqueros, SSM-4F-S-I Ruger Model number 06511. The "S" stands for "short frame" on the .32 Mag. model. The "S" stands for "scrimshaw", on the .22 version.

This is the .22 Baby Vaquero.

Ya don't see that much! :D :D

Hey Chance, you might want to check your grip eagles again. I really couldn't tell what mine were until I got out a magnifier. Looks like these have a raised "SR" that is black, same color as the inset background. I checked one of my older guns and the "SR" on it was also raised, but had had the black polished off to let the white material show through.
