How does one distinguish between the two? By serial range?

Can't be done really, because Lipsey's continues getting in the current production .44 Special flattops. They are the identical guns.
The highest sn Lipsey's "contract" guns I have noted are in the 520-198xx range. This will be pretty close.

Thats what I was afraid of.....another so-called collector item that falls short of the hoopla.

I'm glad they did make them and not sorry I got one but was hoping for a few style points. Therefore, I will without qualms, shoot the stuffins out of it. :D

Its not a big deal. The .44 Specials turned out to be even more popular than Lipsey's thought they would be. Then after the one-year contract Ruger decided to get in on the action. No sure how well they're selling for Ruger right now though. I'd think that Lipsey's probably got the goody out of that offering.
