This is good advice, and I will quickly point out that it applies equally to situations where a bullet is stuck in the bore. Do NOT, under any circumstances, try to drive anything out with a wooden dowel! In this case, a brass rod that was being used broke, so our intrepid adventurer switched to a wooden dowel. Think about this for a moment - a brass rod **BROKE**, so he switched to a wooden dowel!!!

I guess the moral of the story is, you have to know when it's time to seek professional assistance.

Yeah, but that link is wrong, you can indeed remove stuck wooden rods from a barrel. Observe:

Agreed, you can frequently remove broken wooden dowels from rifle bores. In the instance depicted in the article, with the cartridge stuck in the chamber and the dowel broken off even with the muzzle, how do you propose to introduce grease to create hydraulic pressure? The article mentions this method, but obviously they were not able to use it. Had the nimrod who owned the rifle used the hydraulic method initially, he wouldn't ever have gotten into the predicament that he was in. Hence, my suggestion that one must know when to seek professional assistance - or at least the assistance of someone smarter than themselves.

Never heard or was aware of such a thing! If the round was stuck tight who would
be foolish enough to force it in! I don't get it! That round would have needed plenty
of pressure to lodge it in the chamber I would think. ps
