I noticed the other night that there was some paly in the stock in one of my No 1 rifles, a .375 H&H magnum.

I bought this rifle a little over a year ago and never noticed this before. I have yet to fire this gun and was planning to do so in the upcoming summer months, getting various ammo together.

How much of a troublesome fix is this? Is it something that a reputable smith can do or is it one of those things that has to be fixed at the factory?

You could probably do it yourself. Remove the recoil pad, tighten the stock bolt, reinstall the recoil pad. Done. Use a Phillips screwdriver with a round shank to loosen the recoil pad screws, and lube the shank with something like silicone or Go-Jo hand cleaner to prevent marring the recoil pad.
