bought this used, and I recall the seller saying he'd put the sight on ,from a Hunter model. I"d prefer a square notch blade, wondering if the blades can just be swapped out ? tried removing the windage screw, that did not remove the blade, thought it might be 2-sided.

anyone know if the rear sight blades on my .22 pistol are 2-sided,and how they are removed?

thanks !

Yep,, they can be swapped out.
There is a spring on the opposite end of the sight blade from the screw. (It provides tension for the blade when adjusted.)
You have the screw removed,, now, look down from the top of the assy & you will see a SMALL dimpled cut out in the slot. There is a dimple on the blade that must be aligned with the slot & you can remove the blade UPWARDS out of the slot. So,, push the blade back into the slot & align (by feel) the two pieces to lift it out from the top. BEWARE of the spring falling out & being lost after removal.
To re-install, you'll need to depress the spring some to allow the hook of the blade to be inserted in the slot ahead of the spring. Once the blade is in place,, the spring center rides on the pointed end of the blade all inside the slot recess.
A tool has been made to install rear sight blades, but you can use a thin flat screwdriver blade to do the same thing.
If you can, look at an enlarged exploded parts diagram to see all the parts. It'll help.

Ruger may have had it's problems lately but there's NOBODY with customer service like them. Can't tell you how many times in my 40 years of amateur smithing I've needed a part and called in only to be told "it's on it's way NO CHARGE" They've earned my undieing loyalty and respect, still doing business the good ole American way.
