What cartridges or calibers is this ball powder used for when reloading?
I can't find any data searching the net. Would you help, please?

Any idea of how old this particular canister of powder is? I would open it when you get it and smell it, if you get an acidic smell, it would probably be best to either burn it (outside) or sprinkle it on your lawn like fertilizer, I wouldn't take a chance with it.

If it smells ok, load some rounds and shoot them. Here's some loads lifted from a Cast Boolits forum posting (2009):

Several places on internet says WW571 is same as HS-7. I called Hodgdon Powder ans asked if this was true. "NO" was answer. Technician said different data for both powder. Shotgunworld.com also says WW540 is same as HS-6. Again, Hodgdon representative said no.

Hi,

I may have some old Winchester booklets around somewhere that might give us an idea when production of 571 ceased. Off the top of my head and before I look, I want to say mid-'80s.

Winchester #14 from 1994 lists 571 as a currently produced powder in their lineup. #15 in 1997 no longer shows it as being able to be ordered although that manual still has the load data for 571. Their 1999 manual omits all 571 data.

I used this powder in the late 80's-early 90's for loading 38 Spl and light 357 Mag loads with cast bullets. My original data had shown it was an ccurate powder plus being clean burning. Again my records show that I switched over when 231 became available.

Hi,

Thanks for looking it up! My manuals are quite buried right now...
