I'm starting loadIng for my .30 Black Hawk and wondering what others use as far as a crimping die? Taper crimp? Factory (Lee)? I know with the head spacing issue a roll crimp is less than ideal. Or am I better off using .32-20 brass? .32-20 seems like more work. Trimming, expanding, fire forming. Plus I think the carbine brass may be stronger. Thoughts?

I believe the 30 Carbine round in a Ruger revolver headspaces on the case mouth, so taper crimp...

Taper Crimp and mine at least is VERY sensitive to length-- I DO mean sensitive-- Just a heads up. :)

To add a number to the discussion, I taper crimp 30 carbine down to a case mouth diameter of .331"....
I put a crimp on some of mine also, tho I have no good way to photo or measure it's definitely a crimp...and it performs well

Dick.... curious why New Models only..?
Thanks,
John
The old models have inletted cylinders and the 32-20 brass rim's will not fit, the cylinder face will have to be machined flat.

Good question Chief..... my .32-20's utilize +/- .312-.313" bullets. Even my OM conversion from 30Carbine has a new barrel in 32 caliber.
