Looks good to me...now just stuff a bullet down on top of that. Tap down with a hammer and put on a heavy crimp.

That is interesting.

I've also never seen Trail Boss powder. I've heard of ball powder, flake powder, stick powder, but never donut powder...

Powdered donuts, but not donut powder...

100% case fill without compressing the powder (crushing the donuts = big no-no) is 6.56gr.
If any of you have QuickLoad and want to play, here are the numbers.
Maybe one day I'll afford that program.

Case capacity 24.5gr water
Case length 1.360"
Bullet 150gr Remington PSPCL
Bullet length 1.040"
COAL 2.220"
Barrel length 16"

I thought Trail Boss was designed as a low density powder to fill up big cases like .45 Colt for Cowboy velocities?? I will be using AA 1680 with anything from 125gr RN to 205 Gr Lapua bullets for sub sonic. I haven't worked with it much yet, just spit out some 125's to check function. Just getting the action to cycle made me happy, after failing miserably with heavy deep seated bullets in an AK. I am waiting on a suppressor for the 205's and then the serious load development will begin. I am pretty sure I will be sticking with 1680.

I got most of these to show up through the chronograph.

6.5gr of Trail Boss with 150gr PSPCL averaged 850fps, as expected it did not cycle the action.

12.0gr of 2400 with 150gr PSPCL averaged 1530fps.

13.0gr of 2400 with 150gr PSPCL averaged 1650fps.

14.5gr of 2400 with 135gr Sierra #2124 averaged 1870fps.

I picked up a can of AA1680 over the weekend to try with the 135gr and 150gr stuff.
Now I gotta arrive at a load, install the scope and test for accuracy.

Measuring COAL with my barrel (bullets on hand) by dropping bullet into the chamber and inserting a case (that was expanded enough to hold the bullet and chamber) and seating with a dowel .

Case length 1.360"
SAAMI max COAL 2.260"

Bullet----------------------Bullet length--COAL to rifling--Bearing surface (shank) in case neck
125gr Sierra #2020------0.730"--------1.990"-----------0.100"
125gr Nosler #30125----1.065"--------2.245"-----------0.180"
135gr Sierra #2124------0.900"--------2.152"-----------0.018"
150gr Nosler #30150----1.200"--------2.368"-----------0.192"
150gr Remington PSPCL-1.040"--------2.295"------------0.105"

Bullets tested, COAL

Bullet---------------------COAL--------Shank in neck------Distance off rifling

135gr Sierra #2124----2.080"-------0.180"--------------0.072"

150gr Rem. PSPCL------2.220"-------0.180"--------------0.075"

I agree, I wouldn't be using Trail Boss. There's no problem getting sub-sonic with other proven powders and ZERO chance of double charging with most of the suitable powders. If you want some options with loading density, you might try AA#9. Wider load variance than H110/WW296 and better burn than AA1680.

I was trying to rationalize that I am already using one of the fastest powders for this cartridge, figured going the other way to see what one of the slowest might do.

The pistol length gas system might think otherwise.

A couple of more loads tested today.
All cycled fine.

20.0gr of AA1680 with 135gr Sierra #2124 averaged 1940fps, group was a little less than 1" at 50 yards.

19.0gr of AA1680 with 150gr Rem. PSPCL averaged 1870fps, group was a little less than 1" at 50 yards.
