Hello,
I just picked up a R.A. in 308 win. I have some reloading data for the 308 from other rifles I own but no animal is the same. I was wondering if anybody has developed some pet loads and what kind of results you've gotten from them. Does you rifle shoot better w/ a fouled barrel or clean? My experience with other rifles seem to show they are more accurate w/ a fouled barrel. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!!

Are you target shooting, hunting, or some of both? My most common bullet with the 308 is the 165 grain, usually deer hunting. I usually use a medium/faster burn rate powder in the 4895/Ramshot TAC range. Plenty of others will work too.

If mostly just testing accuracy I'd use a match bullet.

It's for hunting. I planned to use 165gr bullets due to the twist of the barrel. I don't mind using a BT bullet like a Sierra GK but I'll use a flat based bullet like a Pro Hunter too.... I have IMR-4895, IMR-4064, Varget, AA-4064

The 165 Sierra GK is a very accurate bullet.
Nosler's are very good also but are rather pricey.
IMR-4895 and Varget both work good in a .308 .
IMR-4062 is OK too, but the two rifles I've used it in liked to throw a flyer every now and then.
Don't know about AA-4064, never heard of it.

That's all I know about that.

165 gr. Bullets over 44.0 gr Varget(mid range load) using CCI BR primers. The most accurate all around load I have ever found for the .308. I have never seen a rifle that did not like that load.

I don't know about your rifle but IMO you won't go wrong with 44.5grs. to 45grs. of Varget behind any 165gr. bullet.
