Well, our turkey season started here this past Saturday. Due to a funeral,, and all, I didn't get to go until late Saturday afternoon. Nada.
Then,, today,, as I was going to work, and got my schedule re-arranged,, I went to another spot I knew,, and got a bird to respond. Well, I was in my work clothes,, and hadn't put my shoes on yet,, but the bird was love struck by my sweet calls,, and just had to come to me.

His beard was about 9-1/2",, but I didn't weigh him.

And to top it off,,, after work, and very late in the day,, taking my helper home,, we stopped by the SAME place. I called in a Jake for him. Two of us,, two birds,, and neither one of us were in camo or other such stuff that MOST turkey hunters use. No decoys etc.

Nice bird. There is no certainty in what lustful males of any species may do.

Sometimes it happens that way.
Yesterday while checking fence on the Ranger, I drove within 25 yards of a strutting gobbler before he even knew I was there. When he did notice me, he ran to a little clump of buckbrush and ducked behind that rather than just take off.
My Uncle never owned a piece of camo clothing- just worn(and exceedingly dirty) blue jeans and flannel shirts. He was a very successful turkey hunter.
If I were you, I stake claim to that spot for future use.

Nice! Sometimes it's just luck, have a friend his favorite saying is "I'd rather be lucky than good", and guess what? He's the luckiest guy I know. ps

Awesome.

My 16 year old daughter and I doubled on a couple of jakes on Saturday. Most fun I have had hunting in a long time. Birds were responding but it took some persuasion to get a couple in range.

Great bird! If the stock on your shotgun was a little lighter, I would think you stole mine...

I went turkey hunting for the ffirst time this past fall season. The young man I was with was a caller extraordinaire. He called in two toms from 100 yards out. It took almost 20 minutes to bring them in range. All I had to do was make the shot. Thankfully, I didn't miss.

It was a very interesting and different experience for me. At an earlier location he had called a couple others in but they spooked before they were in range.Mark told me that it didn't take much to spook them and send them on the run. But, when I shot my tom, the other bird, instead of running off at the sound of the shot, ATTACKED the bird I shot as it flopped around in its death throes! On top of that, another bird that we hadn't seen or heard joined in the attack! Damnedest thing...Both of them hung around as I walked up to retrieve my bird. They stayed about 30 feet away seemingly without a care in the world.

Strange animals, turkeys are. I've got a lot to learn about hunting these birds. Plus, I have a reason to buy a new shotgun!

We see turkeys daily around or area,, in my travels etc. But,, many places,, we can't hunt them. Just today,, I went to recover some beaver traps,, and had a hen stay close to me as I was working. I'd bet hard that she had a nest nearby.

Kudos on the turkey wolfie!!!!!! Calling can be an art,, and in some cases,, make you wonder why a bird would respond to some of the awful sounds some make. BUT,, toms attacking a shot bird is not uncommon. Remember,, they are "competing" for love sick hens,, and any sign of weakness is a reason to attack. I've seen it often.
Now,, learn to call,,,,,! :D :D

Ha, I was thinking the same. My Grandma would have said "bet you could strike a kitchen match on the bottom of those feet".
:D

Congrats!

Actually,, if you had some of the older type strike anywhere matches,, I'd have to agree with you. The bottoms of my feet are pretty tough & rough.

Our son lives in Minnesota.
A few days ago he had a flock of about 10 (herd? group? bunch?) of wild turkeys
wander through his yard and set up a meeting.
He finally had to chase them away with a shovel.
Those birds are about as vicious as they are bright...........
