For those who don't know the names of the players, Ric was the frontman for the popular band The Cars back in the 70s and 80s. Ric was an accomplished songwriter, producer, player and singer. Ben Orr who did a lot of the bands vocals died some years ago.

Ric apparently was found dead in his NYC apartment. Cause of death unclear, but Ric was 75.

RIP Ric...

Oh, man, that's really sad news :( The Cars CD's are among my favorites when I want to listen to music while on the road. They really were different in a great sort of way.

Spare me the negative comments that are sure to come. For the holier than thou's who always pop up in these threads, we get it. Give it a rest...

Rest in Peace Ric. Your music made my life a little brighter...

Wow, bummed to hear. For a number of years, it has been rare to hear any of their tunes on the radio, but in the early eighties they were a leading sound.

Sorry to hear of another musical loss, but I suppose 75 is not a bad run. Plus he got to be married to Paulina Porizkova for 28 years. They just split last year. I read that she was the one that found him dead in their house.

That's two--him and Eddie Money. Who will be the third in this round of Celebrity Death Trifecta? :(

Yeah... That's on tonight as a matter of fact. Just watched Peter in Ulee's Gold. Pretty darned good movie.

They really were different. I loved Ben Orr's contributions and his solo work after he left The Cars. They were very unique. I never bought any of their stuff, but like Eddy Money, I always found myself enjoying their work on the radio.

Only Cars record I ever bought was their first album, which I liked a lot. Didn't like their later stuff enough to actually buy it.

Quoted for truth.
Though Dangerous Type was always my favorite song.

RIP Ric

Edit: Here a couple classic album covers.

Hi,

If memory serves, the one on the right was done by the inimitable Alberto Vargas of Playboy fame. Whoever she is, her picture pops up on the screen of the MP3 player when I plug The Cars into the truck's radio on road trips. Great driving music! Thank you, Ric, and may you now RIP.
