Ok, I just made motel reservations in Chimney Rock! They were $120 a night, I'm not sure if that's good or not for the area. It seems like most hotel rooms are around the hundred dollar mark these days. At least Chimney Rock is only 10 minutes away or so. I remember I stayed there the last time I came out, gosh, that was five years ago in 2014.

Question: You're talking about bringing something to eat. Is that Ingles Market just down the street from you still a good grocery store? I won't be able to cook anything, but will certainly stop and pick something up.

I'm not sure when I can leave Dallas, hopefully I can leave on Wednesday. Then I will be able to be there Friday afternoon. Otherwise, I might not make it until Saturday morning.

Looking forward to it!

Chris and I are also changing our travel times. We are leaving on Thursday so we can get a nights rest and arrive at the range on Friday rested, not 'rung out' from 10 hours on the road. We are staying in Forest City (Quality Inn). ROOMS there are $72.00 + tax using military ID.

Glad to know you are coming Kevin! Yes,, you are only about 10 minutes away in Chimney Rock. Yes,, the Ingles Market is still just 2 minutes away. We can figure out if we need anything when you get here.
Try & get here by Friday afternoon if possible.

FM,, good idea to allow some resting time for you! No need to be worn out to the point of not enjoying it!

Kevin,
I'd say stop off here Kevin when you are on the way but I'm so close to Contender that I expect by the time you get to Greenville you'll want to go the extra hour and get there. $120 for around Chimney Rock and the mountains (Fall colors) in October sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
If you get to Greenville and are feeling too tired give me a call. I can give you my cell #.

Hey thanks! I'm not sure which route I'm going to take yet. I can drive across TN or more to the South and drive through Alabama and up through Atlanta. But I worry about traffic in Atlanta. If I go across TN, I can stop at the Smokey Mountain Knife shop there. Lodge also has a giant store. I remember them last time, they were right off the interstate.

I told my wife I'm going to leave Wednesday, she said go for it.... :D That makes for a more relaxed trip, 500 miles a day is too much anymore.

You are right Kevin, I vote for the Northern route even though it is a Lo..........ng way across Tennesee.... I would avoid Atlanta like the plague that it is.....

I think the most frightened I have ever been in my life was about 20 years ago heading into Atlanta on i-85 one morning at 7:00 about 30 miles out and I realized I was in bumper to bumper traffic for as far as I could see ahead or behind, all 6 lanes on my side, and we were all doing between 75 -80 mph...

Oh, and traffic wise Greenville is quickly becoming the same..... I was going to suggest if you came I-85 to get off just this side of the boarder and take Hwy 11 across the top of the state over to 25....

If anyone has a Wrangler I would like to try one. I am willing to pay for a few rounds of 45 Colt if someone has a range bag full I have not set my reloading stuff up after the move.

Talked with BOB this AM. Called to make reservations. Wyndham (Baymont and Days Inn) require an $100 deposit for my dog plus $20/day. Grrr! Ty is camping still an option? Dog will be on lead! She doesn’t bark unless SHTF.

Just conversing with Pam. She said that she would not be able to make it this year but perhaps would be there next. She said she is ready for Dorian. Propane stove ready, coal oil lamps filled, got food, water, boots, and TP.

I hate it that Pam can't make it. She will be missed. (Are you seeing this Pamela????)

Camping is always an option. Dogs are welcome,, (despite the fact that a few folks think I'm a dog hater.)
Blume has brought his dog a few times as I recall.

I have plenty of 45 Colt ammo,, no issue.
As for my Wranglers,, well, mine are still NIB,,,, and not going to be shot. So,, if anybody else has one to shoot,, bring it for sure!

Unfortunately my dog Beauregard hates shooting.... shivers and shakes at the first sound of a shot even a mile away....It was not good the time I brought him and he's gotten worse. But I will look forward to meeting gramp's dog.

I'll bring the pistol Pam sold me back in April for any of you folks who don't mind shooting a 9mm.
