This last week I spent several days at my daughter's while some work was done on
my house. Hey! Nice to live close enough to do that easily.

Result was that I watched cable TV for quite a while. I don't know which "bundle"
they have, but it is way over 150 (I think more like 250) channels. Of what, You say?
The very same nothing that is on broadcast TV. Only nice part is if you happen to
be in an area where broadcast is not available. OR, if you are predisposed to
watching continuous commercials, or home shopping network.

Any given channel could well have something that was interesting, but most often
it was repeated and repeated and repeated. Can you say YAWN?

I can see it if you are in a remote area, but in a metro area? I'm happy I have an
antenna that does a good job for a one time cost of $15 (not counting the TV or
the electricity to run it). 8)

I'll also mention that I brought my laptop and used her Wifi, but it was not as
effective as the new ISP I am using, so that didn't last long, and it didn't have all
the links or logins with passwords. (Note to self, write those down so I can have
them available, should there be further need.)

:D

P.S. Only inconvenience was her three dogs
and their wanting attention every five minutes.

Back in 60's-70's we only had 4 channels to watch and the three network channels had more
great shows to watch in a week than the 200 channels I have now in a month!

No TV at home in 23 haven't missed it. Books make for better memories.

We killed our tv quite a few back.
Best decision we ever made.
Commercials and garbage for an outrageous fee.
And yes, books make better visuals in my mind than any idiotic tv show or movie ever did.

.

My wife & I are sports fans, and are glad to have access to multiple games of whatever (baseball, football, basketball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, curling, auto races, what have you) on CATV that we can (and DO) watch.

We moved from Westchester County, NY to Bennington County, VT in 1956, went from the whole range of NYC channels to just one, my mother and grandmother couldn't be bothered rigging up a real antenna. I was annoyed at the time, but it made me a reader.

There does seem to be less and less worth watching these days. So I watch less and less. Even with endless options of streaming channels on my Roku, I watch less.

I'm looking at going to an external Antenna that will pick up out to 150-200 miles and dumping everything on cable EXCEPT the internet link. In my area we have fiber optic cable (installed by Verizon) unfortunately they sold it off to Frontier who aren't all that swift, charge a lot and you end up with a load of garbage you never watch.

I'm in this camp, my cable bill is $190.76 a month, that includes 275 channels, Netflix, Starz, Showtime, streaming music, a land line, internet speeds around 450 mbps, and two cell phones. I can watch anything, anytime, on any device, this suits me and I'm perfectly happy with it.

I take the $130/month I saved by shutting off the DISH and buy myself a nice gun a couple times a year.

I really don’t miss TV at all.

If you don't live on a hill or have that antenna high on a pole to get it above trees and buildings it won't work as advertised.
These signals are very sensitive to things like airplanes or even a car driving by.
The wind strength affects them. I have noticed you can be watching something and the signal goes out, requiring adjusting the antenna position. Put that antenna on a pole with a rotor.

Bruce Springsteen had a song "57 Channels and there's Nothing On."

Hi,

Wasn't Elvis the inspiration for that song when he shot his own TV?

First time I heard Pink Floyd sing. The line “13 channels of shxx on the TV to choose from” I was in awe! 13 channels? Wow! We only had 6 to choose from.
