"2) They have a thing here the TV clowns call monsoon season that has
horrible dust storms, and yes MAJOR rain storms (inch an hour types). As such
you keep the house closed tight from May to October."

Actually the TV clowns are right and you are wrong. Arizona does have a legitimate monsoon season, generally considered from June 15 to September 15. Basicall y a monsoon is a change in the wind. For example the winds aloft over Arizona are usually quite dry with little moisture although there is also a winter rainy season. During the monsoon season the winds shift from being mostly over dry desert land to over either the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of Baja depending on the location of the low pressure system. Generally it'll start over Baja, then transition to the Gulf of Mexico.
If the wind shift over the desert also resulted in passing over a different desert region the result would still me a monsoon, albeit with no rain.

You can doubt what I just posted so I suggest you find a copy of the Compendium or Meteorology and look up the definition of monsoon. FWIW, the TV clowns get their info in your case the "clowns" at NWS Phoenix. Actually they're pretty good guys, or at least they used to be when I worked for the NWS. Come to think of it, I had to use their data as "guidance" for any forecast I put out. When I didn't they got mad. The few times I didn't it turned out I was right and they were wrong. NWS Phoenix has responsibility for the entire state of AZ. My local office covered Pima, Santa Cruz and Cochise Counties.

Well, I've always heard "it's a dry heat" so no big deal......right...

Then why do they (TV people) as US what it is going to do - - every day?
(Watch the teasers)

Why do they (TV people) insist that the monsoon always starts on a specific date?
ESPECIALLY when NWS tells us that the monsoon season starts when you have
the third consecutive day with a dew point at or above 55 degrees.
(that happened this last week - one MONTH after the TV people said it was monsoon)

Well over half of the TV people are talking heads. They read from the teleprompter
and many of them do not even look out the window to see what is actually happening.
THOSE are the clowns.

.

Count your blessings...…………….

In the past 12 months, due to major appliance failures, I've had to buy (new):

1) a refrigerator/freezer
2) a toaster oven
3) a hot water heater
4) a clothes washer
5) a clothes dryer
6) a kitchen stove/range
7) a dishwashing machine

Luckily, I was able to R&R everything myself...…….

OTOH, so far my microwave oven, my computer, & my TV are still functional...……….

When we bought our home in 1981 all it had was one large window unit. I worked itself to death trying to cool and knock down the humidity. We spent the $$ to install a heat pump that has a fuel oil backup furnace. Never have been sorry. Right now, 8:36 Saturday morn, it is 87 degrees and the heat index is 101 on my front porch. I am in a comfortable 73 degree room, which is where the thermostat stays year-round.

The dates were derived from data based on many years of weather records. In essences, the dates are the average dates the monsoon occurs. The time frame is considered the generic time frame for the monsoon. Remember, a monsoon is a change in the wind patterns. Rain and high humidity are only a byproduct if those winds that changed occur over water like the Gulfs of Baja and Mexico. I the chnge had both winds over desert, there would be no rain nor high humidity.

Because the weather guessers can also create the news.

Hi,

Now I know how that percentage thing works! They tell us 20% chance and we're flooded... ;)
