It is not surprising to see the stories appear here of the little things Carl did to help others,, or his humor etc. I recall one of the "back east" trips Steve & Carl made. We had some good laughs then. I think it was the first time I met him.
And I recall his work where he had to fire the cannon to start avalanches as a prevention for people. After I learned of that,,, anytime I saw any footage of an avalanche,, I'd think of Carl. Even yesterday,, while I was recuperating from a pulled muscle in my back,, I watched a movie that had an avalanche scene. Immediately,, I thought of Carl,,, thinking,,, "I wonder who fired the cannon for that one?"
Little things,,, yet,, his life did affect so many of us.

Man that is hard news, I am 62 myself, and I can pass away at any time: my health is gone, and I think about the old days. It ain't all bad though, I have some people that I miss; and they are with Jesus, and waiting on my arrival.

I recall the past as if it were chisled in my mind, and I know that those guys were probably the same. And that is everyones fate, to grow old and think about the past; then we pass on......RIP

So sad to hear of Carl's passing....
Just the other day I was thinking about him! Always admired his posts & help with questions, & giving us a train to get on to enjoy the Ruger trip....

We will miss you here Carl & have for quite a number of years already.
RIP sir & we will never forget you!

Thankyou Flatgate for all you've done for our total enjoyment at the forum....

Leader, mentor, friend. We never met in person but did correspond a few times. He gave me the desire to visit Star Valley. Someday Carl, maybe someday. RIP

When I joined Ruger forum over 12 years ago now, I posted about two things: Some Ruger patches, pins, and sundries I had come into possession of, and a minor problem I was having with an old flattop .357.

Guess who responded first to both posts?

Yep. Never met the man in person but am deeply appreciative of what he's done for all of us here.

Grace and peace, Carl.

I never met him... Only corresponded a couple times with him regarding a certain favorite serial number... RIP Carl. I wish I'd had the chance to meet you.

I seldom look at the " stickies" in the Lounge section.
Well, I just seen this post and I'm real saddened by it.
As stated by so many others Carl was a force and presence for so many years here.
These posts are his obit, and shows how much he was so well regarded by us.
I've missed his presence for years now, but grateful for what he gave to us all.
RIP FLATGATE!

He left quite a legacy. Lots of good friends good memories, and I can't help but believe this forum still echoes with his influence. Godspeed friend.

So sorry to hear of Carl's passing. Like almost everyone on this forum, he too helped me greatly.
He always took time to help new collectors and always offered encouragement.
RIP Flatgate

R.I.P. Flatgate! I never met the man in person, but his words here were always the words of a gentleman. Let us respect and maintain his valuable legacy in this forum!

Very sad. This guy was an institution on this forum for many years; way before I officially joined, left and came back. RIP.
