|
|
I am addicted to the 41 magnum and I am expanding my laod data for the cartridge. I currently load some 210 grain Gold Dots with 22 grains of H110 and they are awesome. I also load some 210 grain lead bullets with something like 7 grains of unique. I am interested in loading some heavy stuff for a couple of 7 1/2 41 mags that I recently got fixed up. One is a Blackhawk and one is a Redhawk. Thinking about loading the Cast Performance 250 grain and 265 grain bullets. I know this kills the usually flat shooting 41 magnum but I got a good deal on some bullets and will possibly shoot these inside 50 yard so there is not a real issue. Does anyone currently load for teh heavy 41 magnum? I have checked the load manuals and found the 265 grain with 20.8 grains of H110 but nothing on the 250.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Back when Kelly owned Cast Performance the following data came with the .41 bullets.
250 WFNGC & WFNPB 19.0gr W296
255 WFNGC 18.8 gr W296 / 18.6gr H4227
265 WFNGC 18.0 gr W296 / 17.8gr H4227
Only starting load data is given. His NOTE: do not use less powder than these loads indicate.

| I've loaded up several 265 grain Cast Performance LWFNGC using the recommended loadings from Mike at CP. They like Hodgdons Lil' Gun with large pistol primers (NOT magnum) and an overall length of 1.711 inches. Recommended loadings are 20.0 - 21.5 grains of Lil' Gun; I settled on 21.2 grains. Be advised, the recoil from this heavy bullet is noticeably heavier than the lighter bullets you might be used to. I had to get the Belt Mountain base pin assembly (with set screw) as the factory base pin started backing out under recoil. |

| Ok. Thanks for the advise. I have about 10 pounds of H110 so I will probably use it and work up some loads from what you guys have listed here. Going to shoot them in two Bowen custom Blackhawks and a Redhawk. The Blakchawks both have Bowen base pins with set screws so I should be good. |

I have a 245 gr Custom gas checked SWC mold that I run with 19.5 H110 and Win primers in either Starline or Fed. brass. Standard 6.5" BH. Seems to work.

I think its hard to find a "bad" load in a 41 maggie. I use 18 grs of 2400 with a 230 gr Keith, I also use 9.2 grs of Unique with a 250 gr LBT, both loads have taken elk. The first load has taken a LOT of game.

I found AA9 the most 'accurate' powder in 41 Magnum, but with oh-so-slightly lesser velocity.

I use 18.5 grs of H110 with a 230 Keith bullet - quite accurate. _________________ Μολὼν λάβε |
