Has anyone else seen an attack submarine up close and personal?
USS TUCSON (SSN 770) on the surface and steppin' out. An official Navy photograph captured from a submarine oriented blog.

| 8 boomer patrols, 1 sunken Japanese freighter, and a brief stint on a 688 new construction boat. Interesting experience but I can't say I miss it. |

I saw a few in dry docks. I served on one of these:

Trying to get my son to join the Navy and serve on an aircraft carrier but he seems to be leaning towards the Coast Guard in Alaska. Imagine that!!

| I only know one person who served on a submarine. He has a bumper sticker that reads: There are only two kinds of boats, submarines and targets. |

Impressive!
I love the Navy. If I could go back and change anything, I'd have went in the Navy instead of the Army.

My son has been in Groton, CT for several months now training to serve on one of our subs. He has served on several carriers and now is headed for submarine service. I would love to tour one of those.

Hi Cary,
When your son gets on his "boat" go on down to see him. In all liklihood he'll be allowed to show you around most of the non propulsion plant spaces. I know of one young lad whose father came to San Diego to see my last boat; dad took one quick look and called his wife in Montana to catch the next plane down "to see this thing." _________________ Hugh

Thanks for the information Hugh. He wants to get a sub out of WA state if possible. That would be fairly close for us to visit.
