Hello all,

My new LCP after around 240 rounds quit working. The trigger just went limp and would not fire the weapon.

Disassembled it completely, and found the trigger pivot, #15 on the parts diagram, broken at the transition point from the round pin to the flat portion that the transfer bar attaches to.

A big disappointment to be sure, but Ruger was right on the ball and is sending me replacement parts asap. The person I spoke with has not heard of this particular part breaking.

Until the failure, it shot very well with JHP's (Hansen 90 grain combat) with only two FTF due to being dirty I believe. Both were beyond the 100 rd point without cleaning.

Over all, am very pleased with the weapon and Ruger's service.

Gary

If you are going to carry this pistol, It would be good insurance to polish the hood, upper chamber and the feed ramp to eliminate FTF

The only stress on it is pulling the trigger. It's a hardened part from the looks of it. Anybody guess what my next question would be, I got a shiny nickel here.

Now that I know how to post pics, here are the wear points on the frame insert, at the trigger bar recess.

Thanks for the report. It seems that this problem isn't uncommon.

LCP trigger not working after 37th round - http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=32&t=58195

Another one not working after 177th round - www.defensivecarry.com/vbulletin/concealed-carry-guns/46745-new-ruger-lcp.html

Another one not working after 250th round -
www.ktog.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1209932570

Is this part something that is eventually going to break or do you think these people had bad parts? Also, does dry firing put the same pressure on this part as live firing? I've dry fired about 2,000 times with a snap cap and it still works so far... but only fired about 400 live rounds.

don't thing dry firing has a thing to do with it. hopefully a bad part. those wear points could very easily have been the partially broken pivot pin causing misalignment wear before it actually broke. That part should not break- PERIOD. I don't think the other reports of trigger failures was caused by a broken pivot pin...

The only dry firing used was with snap-caps, trying to get my lovely wife to get a feel for the trigger before she actually fired the pistol (and of course myself)

now that I think alittle about it, there is at least 8+ pounds of trigger pull being put on that particular area every time the trigger is pulled, evidentlh that area is not strong enough to take that stress. Could be a bad part as there are thousands out there not doing it, funny though of other picutres I hve seen on the kt forum of this exact same thing, it is never the little pin that snaps but the entire part itself, like this one in the photo...

Today I received the parts from Ruger and the LCP is back together.

The new trigger pivot looks identical to the one that had broken.

Gave the little guy a thorough cleaning and lube. It cycles perfectly with snap caps. Hope to get out this weekend and give it another try.

Thanks to Jim at Ruger for his great customer support!

Will let you know how the shooting goes.

Yep, the load on that part is the same every time the trigger is pulled, regardless or whether there's a cartridge or a snap cap or nothing at all in the chamber. Not a good sign.

Keep us appraised, Magoo.

Very Happy
