Hi, Dr. Wolf

I know you're probably mixing "about half serious" w/ "half tongue in cheek" here, but this really hits one of my favorite nerves:

Maybe, just MAYBE, if gun owners would unite instead of bellyachin', and vote--as a BLOCK big enough for the powers that be to notice--that might happen!

Instead, everyone wants to whine about "Well, I don't like this or that stand NRA (or any other gun group) has taken so I won't support them" and I'd bet a cup of coffee not a few of 'em will be sitting here tapping out their complaints the first Tuesday in November instead of standing in line at the polling places.

In my neighborhood, it only seems to take about one phone call to organize a couple of hundred Mexicans and/or other Hispanic types to march on just about anyplace to protest something. Heck, the 11 o'clock news will show 100 of 'em gathered every time some kid gets run over by a hit and run driver or hit by a stray bullet from a drive by. Politicians watch those kinds of gatherings...

Now, when's the last time you saw gunowners use THAT kind of clout on a REGULAR basis? And we wonder why the gubb'mint pays more attention to THEM than US?

Poli Sci 101, boys and girls? Nah, it's simpler than that, Civics ONE! Goevernment "by the people" takes a bit of effort on the part of "the people."

Ok, got that out of my system for a while... I'd better get to work!

I don't mean to take a shot at the old folks, but as a group they howl in unison "don't touch social security" whenever a politician dares even approach the subject. Not a tremendous amount of thought, I'm sure some of them have differing opinions, but they publicly line up supporting social security and politicians who support it, oppose those who do not.

I hesitate to put it this way, but sometimes gun owners think too much. Taking a bit of a crowd mentality, our way or else and uniting behind the basic principle of anyone who goes after our guns, regardless of any other position, doesn't get our vote - the single minded mob, so to speak -is a bit contrary to us.

All you have to do is look at the "I can't believe the NRA is supporting Reid" threads to know we're all over the place and don't function as a cohesive group. Maybe it's the individualist nature of gun owners, maybe it's that we can't subjugate our personal likes and dislikes and behave as an unforgiving, not too deep thinking group. But if even half of gun owners took that approach, as a whole I think we'd be alot better off.

Not saying it's perfect, but I bet it would get results.

A goodly part of that in the past has been fueled by the democrats on the left that jump on the bandwagon and loudly claim that the Repubs are going to take away SS from the old people. this rant is usually accompanied by the Dems trotting out two or three "victims" to tell their sad story; seems to be the SOP for Dems anymore.

Actually, I was not being facetious. Reason we gun owners are difficult to mobilize at the drop of a hat is that the vast majority of us have to work for a living, thus having better things to do than hit the streets. Course, there was that one year that some a--hole politician in TX, who shall be left unnamed, tried to introduce an assault weapons bill into the state legislature, and a bunch of gun owners, myself included, marched on the state capitol in Austin. Heck, I even got on the evening news. Still have the video tape. Very Happy
