The real problem with semi autos for us handloaders is brass retention. I often lose 50% of my brass in the grass at the range. Luckily for the calibers I shoot brass isn't too expensive or hard to come by, and I have a big supply of it.
You guys with the unshot pistols should just sell 'em before you find out you like them and start having to accumulate those, too. Gets expensive after a while, and detracts from perfecting your revolver shooting. I speak from experience.

Yep. Every time I go to the range for pistol shooting with a buddy or two, I end up helping them look around for their brass that got thrown all over. At least we don't have to spend time looking for mine too. Now if I can just get them to switch... _________________

| I think the 1911 colt is ok but I don't even know what kind or configuration, bullet wgt ect to get for reloading it. Besides it would be another bullet type I would have to purchase and dies, shell holders ect. So, I think the bottom feeder is gonna have to go before I shoot it. I know where there are two 4 5/8 44 spl flatops waiting to get traded for.Gee, I already have the 5 1/2 inch. OH,what a conumdrum I am in. I must have rugeritis now. |

lots that shoot the load the 45acp and 45 colt find a bullet that will work for both and just buy in bulk. say a 230gr lead round nose for practice. |

Just as a matter of curiosity....is the term 'bottom feeders' meant as a putdown of semi autos or am I just 'reading between the lines' and finding invidious terms... |

| Really when it's all said and done, I just hate walking around looking like a chicken for 10 minutes trying to find my brass. With a revolver, I am reloading and shooting! |

"Bottom-feeder"... it's just slang for a magazine loaded pistol, no difference then saying a "wheel-gun" for a revolver.
We load a 1911 from the bottom... (bottom-feeder) most of us have some kind of semi-auto in our stash.

I also like the term "brass shucker" for semi-autos. |

I agree to that!
That is why, in my battery of handguns I have only a handful of semi autos and about 4 times that many revolvers.
Semi's are all right is the .22 rimfire and even the 9MM, since I have a lifetime supply of brass, but in the other calibers, the only semis I have are collector pieces which I only shoot occasionally. |

VERY well put!
My favorite guns are Ruger SAs. I do think a 1911 and a Mark II, or two, should be manditory though. I have a Dan Wesson 1911 . I chose it over a Colt due to the quality. I wouldn't mind having a Colt, but only for the name. The DW is a spectacular piece, but I haven't put 100 rounds through it for the reason stated above. |

ive got a glock just because they said "indestructable" when they came out so i set out to prove them wrong. still havnt been able to abuse it enough (within reason) to get it to fail. but it is definatly a tool with no personality whatsoever. a combat weapon in its simplest form.
a revolver, especially an sa just speaks to me and wants to tell me about days gone by and show me all the things it can do, and be a steadfast companion.
well that being said i guess i might have to look for a shrink tomorrow. |

Heck no, there is no conotation to the term "bottom feeder".
1 : a fish that feeds at the bottom
2 : one that is of the lowest status or rank
3 : an opportunist who seeks quick profit usually at the expense of others or from their misfortune
