A picture of the end of the box would be very helpful as well. As long as its the original box to the gun. It would have the model number and matching serial number. I really liked the original Vaquero and don't remember a version like that, but they made a bunch of special ones and its been...
A sincere thanks to everyone for all the great info. I forgot to mention that it has a 2.75 inch barrel in addition to being stainless. I wasn't aware of the 4 inch version. The serial, 157- 2958X, places it later in the serial number sequence.
Thanks for the info. A 9mm Speed Six was top of my list of 'wants' and that is why when I found this one in my closet that I was so excited and wanted to share. The full moon and half moon clips were a nice bonus too. I won't be turning this one loose anytime soon. The Security, Service...
While looking in my closet for a Single Six, I found a stainless Speed Six in 9mm plus a lot of half and full moon clips. I had totally forgotten I owned it! I had stashed it away in a nice Ruger brand gun rug. It looks 'new in box' except I don't have the box or papers.
The serial prefix is...
In 1979 I qualified Expert Pistol with a Security Six at Pensacola Naval Air Station while in AOCS. So the Navy had them. I don't remember any special markings on the revolver at the time. It was way before I became a Ruger gun nut.
They are made by Vintage Gun Grips, INC of Casselberry, Florida. (www,vintagegungrips.com).
I have a set like yours for NM Blackhawks and Single Six revolvers, and another set for Security Six series. I got mine through Midway and needed to buy the grip screw and escutcheons separately.
I...
I've never purposely polished any of my stainless handguns, but the longer I own one the more 'shiny' it seems to get from just regular cleaning and cloth wiping after handling. Other than my Vaqueros and New Vaqueros, I only have a few that came to me with a 'high polish' finish which were two...
When the Super Blackhawk Hunters were available I was lucky and bought all the calibers (41 Mag, 44 Mag, & 45 Colt).
The Hunters came in two versions; Super Blackhawk plow handle grip like the Dragoon square back frame but with a rounded trigger guard and the Bisley grip.
They all were...
The two revolvers are near twins except for the Security Six has adjustable sights and a squarish grip frame and Speed Six has fixed sights and a rounded grip frame. As twins, nearly every part will be common to both including trigger, hammer group parts and screws & springs. The exception...
I'm a little lost is what the OP has in mind. He wants a 454 but not a snub nose. That leaves a 7.5 or 5.5 inch Redhawk for conversion.
Why not try and find a Super Redhawk model 5517 in 454? It has a 5 inch barrel, adjustable sights and is cut for scope rings. I believe it's call the...
I have three stainless Bisley Blackhawks all with 5 1/2 inch barrels. Two are 45 Colt and one is a 357 Mag. I have been searching for a Superblackhawk in 44 Mag to complete the set, but no luck.
I did buy a stainless Bisley Vaquero in 44 Mag so I am 'getting by'. It has a 5 1/2 inch barrel...
Wow! Very nice. You now have a revolver exactly the way YOU want it.
Did you trim/replace the 5 1/2 inch barrel for a 4 5/8 inch one? It seems to look that way in one of finished photos.
I have a bunch of Vaqueros/New Vaqueros but only one Birdshead grip. I may 'need' a few more.
The New Model Blackhawk/Vaquero/New Vaquero platforms are so flexible. If a variation you want has not been made by Ruger or can't be found, then you can pretty well make one yourself. That is if you have the all the parts. I have been looking for a stainless Bisley in 44 mag for a long time...
