My new Match Champion has no hammer shims

Prior to calling Ruger, I'd buy or borrow a spark plug gauge, the ones with individual fingers that come out and you add them together to get the correct measurement... Get an accurate measurement of the gaps on either side of the hammer and tell Ruger, the gaps may be within spec.

Super Blackhawk Hunter- Bisley or Plowhandle Grip?

Thanks very much to all of you, I was leaning towards the Bisley based on it's being closer to the DA grips of my other revolvers, and the reviews I've read. So Bisley it is...Rob, I did consider the Redhawk but I'd like a more traditional SA to go with my two DA's, and I'm not thinking that...

Super Blackhawk Hunter- Bisley or Plowhandle Grip?

That would be ideal but I'm not in a large centre where I can do that. I'm looking for a bit of feedback on which one is going to feel more natural to me, coming from the two double action guns, and if the Bisley really does make the .44mag recoil easier to handle for more rounds?

Super Blackhawk Hunter- Bisley or Plowhandle Grip?

Hi gents, I've got both a Ruger GP100 6" barreled .357 and an SP-01 .357 with a 4.2" barrel that I enjoy shooting and shoot well. I'm thinking I'd like to add a Super Blackhawk Hunter .44 with 7 1/2" barrel to my collection, but I've never shot a .44 mag revolver before or had to choose...

    Do iron sights add value?

:D I appreciate rifles without iron sights and just scopes from an artistic-smooth standpoint, and I rely on scopes for my hunting...when you get past 100 yards scopes are king! However, that being said, if I drive out of my nearby deer hunting area to go for moose or elk, I either bring my...

Ruger 77 Tang safety- are the accuracy issues really bad

I still have my first rifle that I got from Dad in 1982, a tang safety Ruger 77. All I've done to it is to clean up the fore-end a bit where the barrel sits and paint Tru-oil in there to make it less amenable to absorbing moisture on wet days. I'd heard of fore-ends absorbing moisture while...

    New vs older sp101's?

The MIM hammers and triggers are an improvement, no more sharp edges and they're smoother on the contact surfaces, so the action will be smoother. The thumb grip surface on the hammer is still good...I think it's all positive.

My first revolver. . .the SP101

Congrats...nice gun! I put shims on my SP101's hammer and polished the hammer spring rod, replacing the factory spring with a 10 pounder. I also replaced the 10 lb. trigger return spring with an 8 pounder... Tested the mods and the double action is now much lighter and feels more precise, and...

Another Ruger to the collection.... the LCR .357

Nice choice! If your wife finds aiming the little revolver a bit dicey, you can get the laser option for it...

Who's shot lots of Hornady 357 Critical Defense? Experience?

I use Critical Duty 9mm+P in my SR9 and Critical Defense in my .357 SP-101 with 4.2" barrel. Is Off Road's post about the CD ammo being optimized for short barrels and not working well in 4.2" barrels true? I don't believe the longer barrel will cause the bullet to tumble, all I can see is that...

    Ruger SP-101 in .357...love it!

Thanks guys! For anyone that's looking at doing the mods: 1000 grit paper and a clean cloth and mag wheel polish for the polishing...triggershims.com for the 5 mil shims for the hammer and tutorial, and Brownells for the Hogue grips and Wolff spring kit. Very little money to make it a...

    Ordering my SP-101 tomorrow

Got mine a couple of weeks ago, polished the trigger bits, hammer spring rod, and hammer, and put a 10 lb. hammer spring and 8 lb. trigger return spring on mine, along with 5 mil stainless shims on the hammer...it's smooth as silk and a nice shooter now!

    Ruger SP-101 in .357...love it!

:D I picked up this sweet little lady a couple of weeks ago and took it apart, polished the trigger parts, hammer, and hammer spring rod...5 mil stainless shims on both sides of the hammer, Wolff 10 pound hammer spring to replace the 14 pound stocker, and 8 pound trigger return spring to replace...
