If you or a friend has 45 Colt and/or 45 acp ammo, with the cylinder out of the gun, drop a 45 Colt round into the cylinder. If it is correct it will drop in properly. If it is a 45 acp cylinder the round will not go in completely. This is well explained by the pictures from previous posts...

As many have stated, it won't work because it is too short. The 9mm fits the cylinder and is stopped from falling through or deeper into the cylinder by the case mouth. The .380 is about the same diameter but considerably shorter and would fall deeper into the cylinder preventing the firing...
