List it on GI for $1000 and you'll sell it. O/U's are out of style, especially with fixed chokes. You can't, or shouldn't, shoot steel in those. Everyone wants an autoloader these days so there isn't much of a market for O/U field guns. People want to be able to shoot waterfowl with steel. JMO.
I had a Leupold 1-4x20 VX2 on a 77/357. Because you probably won't shoot past 100 yards it worked fine. I don't think they make that scope anymore but it's a good one. I have it on a Mini-14 now.
"Cast bullets, even w/gas checks will probably be a "no go" as they can induce lead into the gas system that can only cause problems".
General rule of thumb. If you're going to shoot over 1500 fps load FMJ. Cast is for pistols.
Just purchased a 584 series new. They run about $750. I could have purchased a 180 series used for about $600 but I passed. The 580's are much better rifles. I'm changing out the gas bushing and getting a trigger job right now. Pretty happy with it so far.
I just ordered a gas bushing kit for 584 series mini.
Do I need a torque driver to set the block screws? I don't have one but if it's recommended I'll buy one.
What do you recommend?
Thanks. I have a 3 moa Vortex red dot on a pistol. It really helps me out at 50 yards. Might try that first before I go to a scope. Probably all I need at 100 yds which is where I normally shoot.
Thanks. I've never owned or even shot a 14. I decided to get one because I like the look. Never been an AR guy although I think they are a better fit for most considering price and versatility.
My only carbine now is a USGI M1 that I hardly ever shoot anymore. My eyes have gone south on me so...
I'm looking at buying a new Mini 14 before we get another gun control law here in WA.
Specifically I'm looking at a model that comes with a 5 rd mag, I think 5801 or 5855.
My question, will the 20 rd mags work in these 5 rd models. I'll just buy one down the road if they are interchangeable...
Yes, I know there are better powders for 357. 2400 isn't the best. I mainly only have 3 powders for everything I shoot and 2400 is a good all around powder for both 30 Carbine and 357.
I'm a huge 357 fan and would really like to see that cartridge available in a semi-auto carbine. I reload 9mm...
Ammo companies have ushered in new cartridges with the help of one or two firearms mfg's. 6.5 Creedmoor, 357 Sig, 10mm S&W are all good examples.
Presently my PCC is an M1 carbine. It's listed as a rifle cartridge but really all it is a high pressure straight wall cartridge which is neither...
You should be working in the R@D department at Ruger.
Ruger at one time built a 44 mag carbine so I know they know how to build a 357 mag carbine. Of course the 9mm makes more sense because it's cheap to shoot but as you say it isn't a real show stopper in the velocity dept.
I've done some...
I had one that I purchased about 3-4 years ago. I liked it enough to do some extensive load development, new trigger and stock. I finally sold it because the accuracy was disappointing, even after about a dozen different loads and bullet weights. The only bullet I could get to pattern OK was the...
It always happens when a popular gun is discontinued. Speculators fill the market looking for the last few available. The 77/357 and 77/44 wasn't really that popular until a few states decided that some straight walled cartridges would be legal for deer. I think that's a trend and one can only...
No 38's except break in. I load 357 throughout the range listed in the Hornady manual. I see some old load data in other places that go beyond Hornady data but just haven't tried any yet. I like to experiment with different loads. Might break out the velocity measuring device to see where I'm at...
Good info. Thanks.
I didn't break the rifle in the way most mfg's recommend. I got around to that after about 300-400 rounds. Maybe it's one of those rifles that just isn't going to shoot well until I have several thousand rounds through it no matter what I do. I probably have 500 rounds...
