We talked about how much it takes for retirement, but we didn’t talk about…

We retired debt free in 1992 and are now in our late 80's. All our assets are joint ownership or primary beneficiary with son and daughter as secondary beneficiaries. Our vehicles and home have Transfer on Death forms to our son and daughter. This was set up by our attorney to avoid a will and...

    LST 325 tour

I had three years sea duty on two LST's (1955-1957) The Vernon County (1161) and Walworth County (1164). They had twin 3"50's mounted in three gun tubs and 6 deck mounted 20mm's. I was the lead Fire Control Technician and got to shoot at towed sleds and sleeves during gunnery practice...

P91DC - Estimated value factoring in difficulty of finding any for sale.

This is good news. I have a stainless KP91DC that I bought new in 1992. I considered selling it over the years but never got a decent offer. Glad to see they are starting to increase in value.

Scariest Gun You Have Ever Possessed

I bought one of the early Taurus 9mm PT-111's. After getting warm from firing a few rounds nothing would happen when the trigger was pulled and then several seconds later it would fire unexpectedly. Sent it to Taurus warranty, they said they replaced the forcing cone??? and the delayed firing...

    compact tractors

Most if not all compact tractors are made in Japan or South Korea painted and branded with US names. I have owned three, a Deere by Yanmar, a Ford by Shibauru and a Mahindra by Mitsubishi. All gave great service with very little maintenance. Several other brands are probably just as good.

    remember white gas?

During WW II, my father would add white gas to his 38 Pontiac when he was low on coupons. Pontiac was still running fine when he sold it in 1949.

    John Deere tractor 950

I bought a new 850 in 1978, two wheel gear drive with turf tires. Used it with a 5' bush hog and a 6' FMC flail mower. Had to add front weights because they were too heavy for that size tractor, but other than lack of power steering it was a great performer. Kept it ten years and had no problems.

    CHILDREN OF THE GREATEST GENERATION

Born in 1935. I remember all of that except we didn't have black outs and air raid warnings in Oklahoma.

Why does it feel like I stepped off a cliff?

I had a good job with a very stable company but when a early retirement package for all employees was offered I jumped on it. I was 57 at the time, sold our house in the suburbs and moved to a water front home on the lake. That was back in 1992 and I have never had a moments regret but it did...

Who al lhere is fighting Rheumatoid arthritis?

I have been seeing a rheumatologist for RA for about 10 years. Have blood work done every three months to monitor the disease. He prescribed methotrexate and so far it has kept the symptoms from getting much worse. A steroid shot will fix a joint that gets too painful.

Flying is not like it used to be

I worked in the American Airlines engineering dept from mid sixties until retirement in the early nineties. Flew all over the world on company business and family pleasure. The planes were seldom full and seats in first class were usually available to employees and family. Those were great times...

Newest Lexus with Lane keeping assistance

Pretty common feature now, along with adaptive cruise, collision avoidance, etc. Wifes 2016 Accord has all of those, with switches to turn them on/off.

I bought a 12 pack of Energizer Lithium from EBay a while back to use in a EoTec sight. Seem to have a longer life so far.
