10/22 Auto Bolt Release Mod - Any Downsides?

Me too. I've never had trouble locking/unlocking the factory bolt release, but I guess it's one of those things like learning to juggle. Either you eventually figure it out or you don't.

    10/22 new vs old.

Problem is finding an older one in mint condition. I've been looking, but everything I've seen looked like it'd been on quite a few hunting trips. If I had just one complaint about Ruger and the 10/22, it's that they have never offered a factory finish (aside from stainless) that was durable.

    10/22 new vs old.

Maybe it's all an anti-gun conspiracy to force manufacturers to sell guns with a freshness date on them?

    10/22 new vs old.

I really can't quite place where the hatred of plastic parts comes from. In guns that were always using plastic (like Glocks) it never bothered me. But on firearms that previously used steel or aluminum the substitution of plastic really irks me. I won't buy any new Beretta 92 with the plastic...

Failure to load/jamming on loading with .22/.45 mark II

The malfunction you indicated is usually caused by one or more of the following: 1. Weak magazine springs. The next round doesn't rise up fast enough so the bolt catches it wrong and pushes it up and forward. 2. A sluggish bolt/slide or one that short strokes, usually caused by fouling. 3...

    Purchased a 10/22 Carbime

I know they're all the rage right now, but I just can't bring myself to get excited about a .22LR M4 replica. If I'm going to do that I may as well just get an electric Airsoft M4 so I can rock n' roll right behind my house. The 10/22 is a "real" firearm because its not pretending to be...

    Mark 3 Magazine in Backward

Hey don't feel bad, if nothing else you can always get a job working with Heckler & Koch: ;) Seriously, I think we've all done something abset-minded in the past. Mine was loading 9mm rounds in a Glock .40 mag while at the range. Fortunately I figured it out before inserting it in the pistol.

    10/22 question

I think it was one of the many cost-cutting measures Ruger did in the past couple of years to the 10/22. I haven't seen any from the newsest batch so I hope they reverted back to the silver receiver again. Personally I dislike the two-tone finish, in fact I was never a fan of any of the various...

    10/22 new vs old.

Everybody has an opinion on the changes to the new Rugers. In my opinion the plastic barrel band and trigger housing is a plus, as they work just as well and there's no finish to scratch off. However I never had a problem with the old-style magazine release, so the extended one is something that...

    My "new" 1985 vintage 10/22

Once I bought a brand-new 10/22 with the thought of replacing this one. I couldn't do it, and I eventually sold the newer one still unfired.

    10/22 recoil buffer, how important?

I just followed bearcatter's lead and bought a 1/4" x 3.5" nylon bolt at my local Ace Hardware, and made me a nylon bolt stop pin as well. Tried it out today and it worked perfectly. There was still a "clank" sound when the bolt cycled, but at least this time the sound of the shot was louder...

    My "new" 1985 vintage 10/22

Congratulations. My 10/22 is from 1985 as well. I know that for a fact because I received it as an X-Mas present from my dad that year. I remember taking it, some tin cans, and a box of 100 rounds into the woods next door right after unwrapping presents. I was back in less than 10 minutes asking...

    Time line for the 10/22

I have a 10/22 that I've owned since 1985. Back then they simply black anodized the receivers, and it was a nice contrast to the blued barrel. Later models first used what was basically a black spray paint, and I wasn't too enamored of the change. But the recent ones with the black "crinkle"...

    .22 handgun recoil

I have a Bersa Thunder .380, and the recoil is surprisingly sharp. In fact the frame beats the web of my hand quite a bit. If somebody has trouble with their grip it's one of the few instances where I think a .22 might be a good idea. The suggestion to use a .22 revolver is a sound one...
