    Want Fatter Grips on Blackhawk

Again, thank you all for your great advice and encouragement. It is good to know there are alternatives out there. I recently got into reloading so now I can shoot a lot more 357 mag so, naturally, my desire for more guns has expanded.

    Want Fatter Grips on Blackhawk

Thank you all for your replies. I believe before I make any modifications I will first shoot the gun for a while, but I don't have the gun yet so this is all mostly academic at this point. My thought for the day: You can't make everyone happy, you're not pizza.

    Want Fatter Grips on Blackhawk

I am looking to get the 357 Blackhawk convertible and am wondering anyone can recommend a source for "fatter" grips. I have medium sized hands but long fingers so the factory grips are a bit on the narrow side for me. Thank you.

    SP101 and ammo preference

GunnyGene, I would not argue your point at all. That is one of the reasons I said YMMV (your mileage may vary). Keep shooting straight.

    SP101 and ammo preference

For my revolver the good target/practice ammo "Y" was Speer Lawman 38 Special +P 158 Grain TMJ. Speer #53750. It just shot really well for me today, but YMMV. I had been shooting a lot of brand X because it was cheap, but frankly, I was beginning to think my shooting skills were digressing...

Amen to that! But I will certainly start stocking up on ammo Y!

    SP101 and ammo preference

Both rounds were 158 grain FMJ factory target loads.

    SP101 and ammo preference

I took my 3" SP101 and two different types of 38 special ammo to the range today. At 15' I hit a sheet of paper 2 out of 5 shots with brand X. I thought, WTF? Then I tried brand Y and put 5 out of 5 in a 1" group. This restored my self confidence, so I tried brand X again, and this time I...

Thanks all for your well wishes and continued good advice! I will keep it up! Peace.

    How to improve shooting control.

Update: I shot my concealed weapons permit with the Ruger SP101 22lr, all double-action, and passed! I initially struggled to get 23 out of 32 shots on an 8 1/2x11" paper. The test requires half the rounds shot at 15' and half shot at 45'. I practiced so much that by the time I took the test...

Heads up--'nother run of non catalogued SP's at Davidsons.

I can't say I've ever done the cleaning rode measurement thing. In any case, I don't have an LCRx, I only reported the twist rate as stated on the Ruger website.

Blackhawk, Maybe it is something historical from back in the black powder days? My SP101 3.06" revolver shoots well either way. One of Ruger's newer 38 special only guns, the LCRx with a 3" barrel, has the 1:18.75" twist rate so it is something that they appear to do intentionally.

I believe Ruger also changes the twist from 1:16" (357) to 1:18.75" for 38 Special only. Not sure that make a lot of difference, but it is a difference.

How to chrony multiple types of cartridges?

You are very welcome! It is good to contribute once in a while and not always be a "taker".

How to chrony multiple types of cartridges?

The Speer Lawman is factory tested with a 4" barrel so I expected to be a bit lower with a 3" barrel. However, the Remington load is also tested with a 4" barrel and it was just under 6% lower - go figure. The 961 fps is a result posted on the Buffalo Bore website for this gun. I was hoping...
