Mini 14: Upgrade It or Sell Off and Buy New

Wasn't going to add to a necro-thread, but lumbering buffalo brought it back to life, so I'll add my two cents. I picked up a 183 series Mini-14 in 2010 Sold it five years later because I just HAD to have an AR-15! Once I had it, I tinkered with it, but no matter how much I tried, I just...

    Which peep sigh to get?

So, I'm planning on getting a Marlin 1894 in .38/.357. Model 70410, for those who want to look. My eyes don't see those kind of factory sights very well anymore, so I'll be putting a Williams peep sight on it. The question is: Which one? They have two that should fit, either the FP-Marlin...

    What are your favorite grips?

I'd had a piece of birds-eye maple for about 40 years. Sometimes I'd forget where I put it, but it always turned back up. Found it again about six years ago, and decided to make replacement grips for my .45 Blackhawk Convertible. The problem was, I'd never done anything like this, and I...

    curious for my dad

It's probably marked as such on the gun. If it has adjustable sights it is in fact a Mark I. The Standard Model was made during the same time frame, but had fixed sights. I have a January 1958 Standard Model that was my first handgun purchase in 1986. It's older than I am.

Not Exactly Fun To Shoot My LC9S

My primary carry gun is a Ruger LCR-357. Loaded with Speer .38 Special Gold Dots for carry purposes, but I regularly practice with it. I use it frequently at bowling pin shoots (12 yards) and have fired many rounds at steel plates at 55 yards. With a roughly 12"x18" plate, I could usually hit...

38 Special SP101 for spring break UPDATED with Pictures

Hmm. I found a backwards seated primer in .45 ACP the hard way. Click instead of bang in a Bullseye match. Also WWB. Still have it. Nah, I'll keep it as a novelty item.

Question on a couple guns make and values...Arizona

The Ruger is not a Mark III. Those have the mag release behind the trigger. This one has the European style heel release that came on the Standard, Mark I and Mark II models. In fact, looking at the grip screws, I think it's either a Standard or an early Mark I. Those have the lower screw...

    .45+p in the Ruger P90

Two points: 1) What is the ammo worth? Deduct that from the $1,350. That is the true cost of the gun. Now, could you sell it later for more than that? If so, good deal. 2) 800 rounds of reloadable brass after you shoot it. That's a big plus. 10mm brass isn't the easiest to come by...

    SR9c not disassembling

Rei40c - That's good advice. As mentioned above, after "fixing" it, I took it apart and reassembled it two more times. The first time the recoil assembly dropped on the desk, like you mentioned. Surprised me, because I know it's not supposed to do that. The second time it worked...

    SR9c not disassembling

Yes. See above. To the letter. I just tried again. It got to the same condition, and I noticed that the guide rod was sticking slightly out the end of the slide when the slide was in the normal position. Maybe a 32nd of an inch. I pushed it back into position with my finger, and then the...

    SR9c not disassembling

New gun, first owner. First took it out last Sunday, but cleaned and lubed it first. Disassembly both before and after shooting went just fine. This morning I went to disassemble it. Followed the disassembly instructions to the letter. After removing the takedown pin and releasing the slide...

    poor shot with LCP

Agreed. I shoot steel at 75 yards, with my .357 LCR. Can consistently hit a 1'x2' ram 40% of the time, and the misses aren't by much.
