How many times can you reuse brass? What effect does lead cast bullets have on today's 9mm pistols?

Please forgive this newb's ignorance but I can't find the answer anywhere. I love to shoot 9mm pistol and carbine. I can buy Federal at Wally World for $10. How cheap can I make my own if I wear to buy all the equipment. BD87

Thanks to you all! I am going pick up the P89 ( left it with them while I did research) and try it out. I feel pretty confident after having heard from you all. I do like the feel of the p89 a little better. Let you know when I've had a chance to shoot it!

blume357:150 is pretty steep for a P89 barrel... I believe I paid $90 for a ported one... don't know where the labor part is going to come in. I would hope you don't pay for someone to install it. That is what Ruger quoted me. I called to ask to buy a barrel and they said I had to ship the gun...

Railroader, I inspected the barrel of the 89 and a 95. the 95's rifling appeared far more distinct(deeper,etc) than that of the 89. was just worried it would be in need of a replacement, whick Ruger CS says will cost about $150 for labor and shipping. I saw on Auction arms the whole assembly...

are there any after market mags to avoid? where's the best place to get p89 mags?

Did a search and can't find anything on this. What would be the recommended break in of this pistol? Dealer said run mini mags for 200-300 rounds straight out of the box. then clean well and shoot whatever I want after that. Do you all concur?

Gunshop said they'd give me even trade for p89 with worn barrel I just got from them a the p95dc they just traded in. Which is the better weapon overall. I could always spend the 150 dollars for a replacement barrel. Thanks for the info.

I got a used p89. GS employee says rifling is weak. Not sure he knew what he was talking about. How do I tell? It doesn't look that much different from others I have seen and he wasn't even familiar with breaking it down. Everything else looks good. What is weapon worth? Thanks for your help.
