+1. I am a repeat, (repeating!) customer.

Usually a Glock 23 in a Galco shoulder holster. Also a S&W 637 Airweight in a pocket holster in my front left pocket. In the woods, a S&W 629 with a 4" barrel or a Blackhawk .45 colt with a 4 5/8" barrel, both loaded with hardcast SWC's.

I have this caliber in the Hawkeye Compact and I wouldn't sell mine for anything. Mine doen't like the .308" bullets, but shoots nice little groups with Hornady .310" bullets.

One thing for sure, none of the loads you list will bounce off a deer! I always get complete penetration on deer with Elmer's .44 mag. 250 SWC load at 1250 fps. when place through the shoulders. Works the same on blackbear here in WV. Some of your loads would turn a Rhino around if you happen...

I always thought I woulf like a .44 Bulldog. Any of you fellows who own one, can you tells us about the recoil?

Just a reminder, the 38-40 case is very thin, and definately not designed for high pressure. The weak link in any firearm is the brass case, not the strength of the gun. Fingers and eyes are very fragile when subjected to high pressure and shrapnel.

Boatman, I too have a Vepr like yours, the only difference being mine has a 20" barrel. I agree, they are on the heavy side, but they do outshoot many other types of AK's. If I recall, the Vepr is designed off the Russian RPK light mg, thus it has the heavier receiver and heavier barrel than...

Just a thought, but the New Vaqueros are no longer made with a 7.5" barrel, so in a few years they may be very desirable as collectors. I am not really into "collecting" but I have a new Vaquero with the long barrel, and it is beautiful!

Only mistake I can find in your test report is the mispelling of CA. It should be KA. :wink:

The New Vaquero more closely resembles the size, feel and weight of the original Colt SAA, especially in the grip area. I have owned both models, and prefer the New Vaquero. It just "feels" better. Though the New Vaquero is probably stronger than the original Colt SAA, it is not as strong as...
