On a New Model the base pin will move forward under recoil. Then the spring on the end of the pin will not push the transfer bar out of the way and it will catch on the bottom of the firing pin, making it so you can’t pull the hammer back.
I have used a hardened steel pin and a hardened plate in a press to do most of the ones I have done. I used to just use a pin and a hammer on a steel plate before that. I found I can control it better by using a press. I only need a coupe thousandths. It’s probably only off less than half a...
So far, the only thing I have found wrong with it is the timing of the pawl is a touch late. So I will probably stretch the pawl slightly before I shoot it. Hope to get some rounds loaded this week and try it out over the weekend. I usually run most of my revolvers around 1000-1100 fps. So I...
Don't know it's history. The guy I got it from was amazed the I was willing to trade a rifle for a revolver. He just looked at me like I was nuts! Lol!
I just picked up a used 7.5” NM Super Blackhawk yesterday. I have owned probably 30-40 single action Rugers and this by far is the tightest. It has a .002 cylinder to barrel gap. Zero end play in the cylinder. A very minimal amount of rotational play and I think all of that would be gone...
I have taken many deer with a 260 grain cast bullet at 950 fps out of a revolver. Distances were from 10-100ish yards with no lack of killing power if shots are put in the right place.
I have shot 480’s out of my 475’s with no problems. I ended up using a load that was basically a 480 load in 475 brass so haven’t done it since. Both of my Freedom arms love a 400 grain LFN over 14-15 grains of HS6 with a Federal 210 primer in 475 brass. Does right at 1100 fps.
I bought one of the 5.5” Bisley models back in the day. Had a buddy who fell in love with it And I ended up selling it to him. Always figured I would get another one someday. Kick myself all the time for that one!!
