Anyone know the NYCPD policy on old service guns?

In the revolver era, you were allowed a choice of approved revolvers. Smith model 10 and, the Colt OP. Stainless guns became authorized, the Smith NY-1 (a DAO 64 with frosted finish) in 3" and 4". Then the Rugers were added. First the Service Six (.38 Special) and the GP100 (I believe) Off...

how to remove paint from Security Six

If it looks really well done, as you indicate, and, normal solvents won't get it off, it may be a Walter Birdsong finish. That was one of the early super tough finishes. Green-T finish. I just might have to leave it alone. Edit: There are still around. http://www.black-t.com/index.htm

Ouch! A Problem with Sheriff #2! Never saw this before!

Isn't that the model you always hear about for shooting at bears? Something about filing down the front sight so, when you piss off the bear it won't hurt so much when he shoves it....

    Never use a toothpick...

Some day, I will clean out the shop vac and go over my entire toy room, behind every nook and cranny I can find and, then see what is in the shop vac. I think there is a pretty high probability that I can build a Smith model 10 out of all the parts that have dissapeared throughout the years.

    Nickel Security Six?

On that picture of the nickel gun, I don't like the fit between the frame and the trigger group. The gaps look too big..like, somebody polished the parts individually, leading to a little rounding of the edges. I also don't like the space around the hammer pivot pin. It doesn't look right to me...

    CLEANING R.O.A.

Bucket of warm soapy water. Dawn dishwashing detergent. Assorted brushes to clean the frame, charge holes, bore etc. Then rinse under scalding water and blow dry. Then, the whole gun gets dunked in my super secret solvent tank and blow/hang dry (in the summer, in Texas, hanging the gun...

looking for info on GPNY and SPNY

Well...how cool. I called Ruger records department. Very nice folks there by the way, I spoke with Carla. My Service Six was shipped in July 87. And the model number is: GF-84NYCPD. Serial number 162-4044X. I suppose we can deduce from that model number that it is unquestionably a NYPD...

looking for info on GPNY and SPNY

The one difference is, the NYPD Service Six I have is stainless. I know they couldn't have issued those for very long. I know NYPD issued the Blue model 10 for forever and a day. Then the transition to stainless. Then the DA only guns. So, mine had to fit in a very small window.

looking for info on GPNY and SPNY

Greetings. I have a Ruger SPNY I found languishing on the shelf of a local gun store, brand new, in the box and it is stamped SPNY on the side. I also have a Police Service Six that I purchased from a former NYPD cop. It has no specific markings on it that I have found (may have to look it...
