You used to could get good brass reloads of this ammo from Georgia Arms... a goodly number of years ago I had to supply a number of rifles for some fellows to shoot.... two I supplied were a mini 14 and a mini 30... some guy brought his AK 47 and a lot of wolf ammo... they shot the wolf ammo in my mini 30.... when I got home and started to clean the guns I let others shoot the mini-30 looked like someone had poured mud down the barrel. The real problem with this ammo is usually it comes from someplace that makes really dirty rounds... I don't even like the way the stuff smells.

I have also found the steel cased Hornady to be the best performer. It is still shown in their catalogue, but I cannot find it anywhere, and have been told it's discontinued. So I guess I don't know the real story.View attachment 44070

If I save my Hornady steel case ammo for only deer and occasionally a feral porker, I may expire before the ammo runs out.

Been thinking about building an AR15 chambered for .300 Ham'r (which was developed by Wilson Combat as a hunting round). Just don't know if it offers enough additional velocity over the 7.62x39 to make it worthwhile - will probably put the idea on the back burner, and see if I stumble across an affordable barrel &/or some cheap brass.
:)
I have an AR chambered in .458 SOCOM. it will take down a Hog or a bear. It is good for approx. 100 yds.

Yeah, I saw it shoot up. I had a bunch of Golden Tiger @ $5.00/box
Golden Tiger is the best steel case there is and sells for $300 per 500 now. Glad I got all I need when it was $200 per 1000 only a few years ago. The price of Red Army Standard has gone through the roof as well.

Mine is a Zastava O-PAP which has tripled in value in the last five years.

I have a nice Yugo SKS and I built a 16" AR in 7.62x39
I really like the AR for a truck gun. Lightweight with Magpul Delta ring forearm and a Tacticon 1-4 LPVO with illuminated reticle. It shoots the 154gr Tula ammo really well. I scored some ASC mags and they cycle excellent. That 154gr SP ammo hits hard.

My two SKS's... one of which is a paratrooper model with a shorter barrel, have non debatable 20 round mags on them. And both have folding stocks... I think I need to take them out and play with 'em sometime.

The inaccuracy problems associated with 7.62x 39 AKs has more to do with their barrels than the round.
AK barrels flex - a lot - when fired. SKSs are better generally. I've owned both a brand new Yugo and a genuine Vietnam Chi-com Norinco, and though beat up it was generally a better made weapon. If you want a decent AK, I recommend a Norinco MAK 90. They have significantly bigger diameter barrels, don't flex as much, and each one I've owned over the years had a very light trigger pull, once you pulled through the creep.

I no longer own any of them. Once the cheap ammo dried up, and during the Obama scare, I sold them to someone that needed them more than I did. I did like the round though - the old steel core Chinese stuff will shoot right through a telephone pole...

I had a Mini 30, a couple SKS's and a Norinco AK 47 in the 80s. All bought in California imagine that lol. Lost the mini 30 and SKS's in a divorce. Sold the AK to a retiring SEAL (Sr Chief Lyles GREAT GUY!) when I was TAD to EODMU3 where he was attached. Wonder if he still has it.

I missed the AK as a pure fun gun. Couple years ago I bought one from PSA. On days I just want to pull the trigger and hit steel it is the best therapy. Got a great deal on cases of Wolf and Tulammo. It's going to take a bunch of therapy shoots to go through it. Looking to get another one in the near future.
