The Glock debate reminds me of the old joke:

"What do mopeds and fat women have in common?"
"They're both fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you on one".

I have 3 Mak's, a Belgian (I know, not technically a Mak) in 9x18 and two Russians in .380. The Mak was my "motorcycle" gun because it was the only pistol I had for a long time, and I could easily shoot it left-handed with good accuracy.

Depending on the situation now, I carry the Security-9, a 1911 in .45, or the OM SBH in .44 (pretty much just my woods carry gun).

Sometimes I think people throw these '5 best' or whatever lists together just to stir it up and get people talking. Other times it seems they have a deadline, need 5 handgun models to make a list, pick them at random with no knowledge of any of them.

I like Glocks. They are reasonably inexpensive, and as reliable as it gets in my experience. If I'm not carrying a Glock its an SP101. I had an old cop buddy that used to say, "1911s are what you show your friends, Glocks are what you show your enemies."

I've carried 1911s, BHPs, snubbie revolvers, and some others in the past.

I am so glad I had set my cup of coffee down before I read that!:):):):):):)

As for the Glock thing, I'll repeat myself. I never liked the way they looked... too square and speaking of woman; that is how a handgun should look, it should have curves and not be square and look like a shoe box. the more curves the better... The Sig P230 / 232 is the best looking Semi-auto ever made.
Here's the one I carried for years before I upped my caliber choice:

Now I carry the second best looking semi-auto ever made, Sig P239. (chambered in 357 Sig)

But in all fairness I do have to say a Glock does not look half as bad once you own one or two or three....
Even if they do make it in baby poop browns...(can't even get the plastic and coating on the slide to match?)

We have the same guns and opinions about them. I am stunned.

yep... even though I carry a Sig P239 in 357 sig I wanted a 'truck gun' and also a rifle in 357 Sig and so I ended up buying a Glock 32c and a rifle from TNW out in Oregon..... only because they only make the rifles to take Glock magazines.... then I decided to get the full size Glock in the same caliber the 31... then for cheaper practice with the rifle I got the 9mm conversion kit for it and so had to get a Glock 19x (the baby poop brown pictured above)... some times I wonder when it will end.

As for the Sigs... my limited experience there is no real way to compare a sig P pistol to a Glock... they are two different critters..... is one of the reasons I dropped off of another forum... the odd thing is its is not a Glock forum but the guy who runs it thinks they are the best gun out there and if you say anything negative about them you get put on probation.

I'm also not a fan of striker fired ... but own a Sig P320... and just today was looking at something I had taped up on my ammo cabinet a few years back... was in a 4 day defensive hand gun class and on the 4th day they did a ragged hole test ....shooting at a 1" black square... 5 rounds at 15ft... here is what my Sig P320 did on that test. the gun smith on site had a big Glock tattoo on his arm and the day before had explained to me that my Sig could not be made to be accurate....

I just can't get a Glock to feel good in my hand. I know they're reliable, but there's other choices. I also don't like striker fired guns for concealed carry. That's a personal thing, I know. I grew up on 1911's and BHP's. But when I wanted a small semi to "upgrade" from my Airweight, I fell in love with the HK P2000SK. None of my HK's have ever had a malfunction. I really like the mag release too.

What age for 5 best?
At 80 with several long hospital stays with Arthritis in both hands what I carried and shot isn't what I can today. For 60 years I carried a 1911 of some type unless Uncle for 7 years said carry something else.

Today:
1903 Cold Hammerless in .32 ACP.
2011 STI PERFICT 10 with 6" barrel in 10 mm
1911 Colt Rail Gun .45 ACP
1911 Tisas Singray 9 mm
1911A1 Springfield .45 ACP

1911 types now hurt to shoot but if going somewhere that I thought I might need the power for bearer penetration they would go on my side. Don't do bars or rough places I did in my miss spent youth so the .32 will kill just like the bigger bores.
