"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard 'Dickey' Betts (December 12, 1943 - April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old," reads a statement posted on Betts' official Instagram page. "The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch passed away earlier today at his home in Osprey, FL., surrounded by his family."

How odd that I was driving home from the store a little over an hour ago and thought that Dickey Betts and Jaimoe are the last two remaining original members of The Allman Brothers Band. Then I read this :(

Rest in Peace, Dickey, and thanks for the memories...

I have spent a bunch of guitar time learning Allman Brothers tunes. "Jessica" is a handful but so satisfying when I get it right.
Dickie was a poster boy for bad decisions, his exploits cost him alot.

most of the world's rock and rollers in this world, alive and dead, have long beleaved Allman band live album made at the Fillmore East in July on 1971 in NYC to be the greatest LIVE album ever made. not a hard one to want to argue with, its right up there with the Last Waltz in November of 1976. by "The BAND" .....RIP to Dickey Betts. he was one of the Greats!

Another great gone. That said, who had him making 80 with the lifestyle he lived? His son, Duane Betts, plays a pretty good guitar too.
