Are there any flats, steps or index marks on the taper? It may be a taper Gage used to check a tapered hole for correct depth. These (taper gages) were also used with prussian blue to check for contact area and verify the hole is the correct taper.

Companies where I worked in Quality Assurance made many parts for Sikorsky, Bell, Kaman, McDonnell Douglas, Robinson and others. Helicopters do not Fly; They beat the air into submission.
