    Winchester Ammo

The only Winchester 9MM that I still shoot is their 9MM NATO-124 Grn FMJ, which I buy by the case. It is excellent ammo IF your particular pistol is "+P" rated. If your's ain't, you'll need something more in line with SAAMI pressure-specs for 9MM Luger...FWIW, my favorite "standard load" 9MM is...

Home insurance? Who is the best but cheap? Mine is going up 27%!

Some people say I'm crazy....but....I quit buying what we call "home insurance" over 10 years ago. Reason is, I long ago discovered the hard way that insurance companies would rather make me fight than pay off. Plus, there's so many "small print exemptions" written into most policies that unless...

    Mini 14 reload recipes

For a 580-up series, 1-9 Twist Mini-14: 62 Grn Hornady FMJ....IMR-4895...Federal Match primer. If you can't find IMR-4895, use H-4895. If you can't find either, Varget works well. The exact load recommendations for either three can be found in most any reloading manual. Just as a side note, A...

Is Open Carry contributing to crime?

Hey Blume....let's call that what it really is....the anti-patriot act. Just sayin'. DGW

    9mm Super GP100

To Contender's point........If you owned the gun, and if you was using it for what it was intended to be used for, it wouldn't matter how ugly it is...because if you using it as intended, the only part of the gun you'd be looking at would be the front sight anyway. Just sayin'. DGW

Strange diameter for .38 spl? Would these work?

If it were me, I'd coat 'em with Alox, seat 'em over 4.5 Grns of Unique.....and let her rip. DGW

.380, 9.3×18, .38 Revolvers - Handguns in Defense Against Bears by Caliber

Yeah, a .36 caliber projectile may indeed, kill a bear....The real question though, is will it (or maybe even 3-4 more like it) stop the bear before it kills you?.....In other words, when it's seconds that count, it don't much matter if the bear dies 2 or 3 days later or not , eh?...In my...

I need to get a riding mower

That's been my experience also. Plus, a 42" has fewer blades, deck bearings, and belts to fool with than the ones with bigger cuts....and don't even talk to me about a 2-cyl air cooled engine on a riding lawn mower, especially a Briggs. Nothing but junk. DGW

What firearm have you owned the longest?

An old .357 Blackhawk that I bought used almost 50 years ago.... DGW

How much was your first house?

That was back before the effects of loosing our real money began kicking in. Reckon what a place like that would cost in today's fiat?..... DGW

The benefits of a college education

I policed for over 12 years back in the old days. Based on my observations and first hand experience, I can tell ya for sure that modern-day agencies and their insistence that all recruits have a college background has a lot to do with what's gone wrong with law enforcement today......Plus, I've...

    Fair market value

Yeah, I saw it in there a day or so ago....To my earlier point though, the guy is wanting more than I can get a new one just like it for....Plus, that one doesn't seem to include the factory stock, and a factory Mini-30 stock ain't that easy to find......So.... But thanks for trying to help...

    Fair market value

Yeah on all that. I don't buy a gun very often either. As it happens though, I am presently in the market for a newer-style Mini-30. To be more specific, a model 5854. That particular model comes from Ruger with scope rings, a weaver-type rail, two 20-Rd mags can be bought from several vendors...

    Fair market value

We all know that a used gun is worth exactly what a prospective buyer is willing to pay for it. Plus. as stated earlier in this thread, looking at what auctions bring can give one a fair idea of a gun's value. Much more so than "Blue Book's" or similar "price guides"....That being said though...
