He scammed me. Replied to a WTB ad I had for a barrel. I paid him and he ghosted me

OP, sorry for your trouble. He's been a member since Jan, 23, and only had 22 posts. For me, that's a red flag. I'd sell to somebody like that, but would never buy from him long distance.

Hope he comes through for you. I hope it's something minor like, he's in ICU with a brain bleed, or something.

On average, he posts more than you do.

I saw all the red flags but like a dumb a$$ I trusted him anyway. I'll not be posting WTB or for sale for awhile. The most all members here are good people. People do things like scamming old men I guess because they are too lazy to work.

I'm not trying to sell anything. What is it about that distinction that escapes you?

You seemed to be basing your opinion on number of posts and/or longevity here.
All the while you post, on average, less than him.

At least Pinned...has been on this site for 18 years. Perhaps he's just not talkative. But a member who scams 4 months after joining? That's suspicious.

Some sites do not allow members to offer items for sale until they've been members for X months.

His page says he joined on Jan 4 2023. I believe that is a year and 4 months.

Hey, one never knows, as noted above he could be 'busy, away, hurt or about anything else', I like to try and believe in my fellow man and let experience be a lesson and a guide, not sure how long its been since you sent any funds or whatever I do knwo the postal service as well as others in shipping seem to take their merry old time...there there are the variables, time zones, does he work?? and we don't , so all things either aren't not fast or soon enough.....nothing wrong with asking a question if ANY of us may have dealt with ,may even know the person, so all valid......good luck , hope you did NOT get 'scammed' and may things work out for you.............

That's now multiple times I've misread a comment. Methinks I'm getting too old to make such comments. Thanks for pointing this out.

Rugerguy. I under stand that and have been there and done that. What bothers me is the way he ghosted me after he received the money.

Did you send a postal money order? Figure where it was cashed and contact the local law. You must have sent the money to a 'real' name and address.

I used Paypal because I live a ways from town and it is the easy way for me.. I did send it as a product and not F&F.

then I would follow up with the Paypal folks they have a department that handles that I believe, they must have 'contact' info on the "other" member.........

yes, you might not get your money back but you can do your best to cause the guy heart ache if at all possible. That's going to be one of my goals when I'm elected president... we are going to have an entire bureau tracking down these scammers and slapping the hell out of them might even have special teams to go out of country....

Got a text from my minister today needing help ..... yeah right, she has my phone numbers and can call.... if I had time I would have done my best to take up the scammer's time at least.....

Could not help myself... I just replied to it... here is what I wrote and sent:

"You know I was gonna do my best to take up as much of your time as possible, but then I started thinking about it and I have not got that much time because I actually work for a living and try to contribute to society not like some people that are just a waste of the life force. I hope one day the fleas of a 1000 camels infest your crotch and you get hemorrhoids."

You'll need 1 office in Nigeria and another in the Middle East ….. pick your country of choice; something ending in "Stan".
