Amazing perception of what might attract women (and more men) to skeet shooting... 1960's and now.

If advertising works I'm sorry I wasn't old enough to shoot skeet in the 60's :)

Not sure what kind of idiot did the animated picture, but NOBODY holds a shotgun like that. And the painting is 70s, not 60s.... look at the car. Looks like she's shooting either an 1100 or an 11-87 Remington.

Funny …. I watched an old Andy Griffith Show this week and Andy took a girl out shooting not knowing she was a competition shooter ….. a lesson about men assuming the "weaker sex" couldn't do "men things".

Prior to 1997 the NSCA didn't allow a mounted gun in formal competition. The rules would say that the butt of the gun must be visible below the armpit when viewing from behind.
Heck, at first the talk was, no more than a field ready position, the but of the gun about belt level. I guess the butt just kept inching up the torso that they finally said mount the dang thing ya want to.
I still start my mount about the same as the young lady in the drawing, trying to still replicate hunting, if only a little, rather than the clinched shoulder mount formal trap shooting.

Recall that episode of Andy Griffith with Gail Davis. Really was a great shooter. Played Annie Oakley on TV way way back.

You and me both. Sporting clays as well.
When I shoot Skeet, it's generally International and you have to have a contrasting line at the waist that the butt of the shotgun has to touch and cannot move until the bird is released. It's double tough.

American skeet shooters come once and never come back.

Ever shoot FITASC? Humbling, to say the least.

If I go skeet shooting I will be like on The Beverly Hillbillies, I even have a double barreled slingshot like Ellie May! :)
You just gonna have to quit that kind of talk & you know what I mean .

BTW, no recent pic of you in a few years. I'd settle for the pajama one. But know I've probably gone too far already so I should shut up.

I see your handle as WendyPYT, purty young thang. Always have.

Now back to regular programming... I see that International Skeet the birds are traveling 65mph vs. 50mph for American skeet. The club I shoot at a few times a year has said their birds are more like 40.

To what gnappi said, most don't come back to an International range, point taken. But think I might be back with a whole new game face,,,, for a while. But at least I'd try. But my eye/hand coordination has never been top notch, & I'd just have to see how bad I could be at it.

Set at 40?

Anyway, most don't come back because after smoking 100 straight at American skeet they get maybe 6 of 25 and leave. Funny FITASC, 5 stand and sporting clays folks do pretty well initially, no surprise there.

I shot it poorly at first (I think I got less than 5) but like other shooting sports most shooters give helpful tips and if you give it a chance it is thrilling the first time you break doubles, and then TWENTY! Perfect scores of 25 are pretty uncommon and that's the purpose of the game. If 25's became a regular thing, I think they'd change the rules to make the birds even smaller, tougher to break, faster AND drop the shot payload to 1/2 ounce!

I've only shot at one of those critters about twice in my life... at least while they were flying... I used to forage in the woods at my gun club and collect the ones that got away and put them on the berm at the pistol range and dispense with them. When I first joined this club I had to take the obligatory safety tour and the guy was explaining the skeet range of which there are three and then also two trap ranges and a five stand course... then the guy explained that they hired high school students on the weekend and also some on Wednesdays to keep the pigeon tossing machines loaded... because each one only held 750..... I did not have a clue.
