I always carry one of those little Swiss Army knives for the scissors and the toothpick, but TSA wants to take them away, so I bought the blade less one to fly with and get the airport food out of my teeth and security didn't even blink. So they have have a lame purpose I guess, and I didn't feel naked.

I think the most useless tool in the Swiss Army Knife is any that has a corkscrew in it.

I do still have my original Leatherman tool ,when I met Tim back in the early 1980s, it still has the "patent pending" on it, worn out about half a dozen cases for it both leather and the nylon later version,,,,,seldom ever actually use the 'blade' BUT ALL the other stuff does it for me, the "KISS" principle...........;)

If the gun control people ever get what they really want, i.e., making gun ownership illegal, criminal violence will continue and they will go after the knives. This is already the case in the U.K., and knife control is proving as ineffective as gun control. Some day our great-grandchildren will be down to carry a good fork for their self defense, or possibly a big spoon. The morons are ruling the Earth.
Ball peen hammers are legal and classified as a working tool that's why the Hells Angles carry them!

I've carried at least one of some sort of knife or multitool most every day of my life, starting with a Boy Scout jack knife. In the army, I carried a Buck 110 or Buck Lite with a Leatherman or the dreadful blood blister creating Gerbers the army was issuing in the 80s and 90s. When I was an apprentice Elevator Constructor, I carried the same combo, I used to get a lot of grief from the moronic gestapo union reps because apprentices weren't allowed to carry tools by their beloved standard agreement. They were very familiar with what tools looked like and were quick to pick up on them, as they saw a tool in the mirror every morning as they brushed their tooth and slicked their hair back while smoking their second joint of the day...

For many years I've carried one of the Milwaukee utility knives with the extra blades in the handle and feel naked without one, to the point where if I fly and can't take a knife my first stop is Home Depot to buy one, and will gift it to someone when I'm about to leave. I've worn those things out and have given dozens of them as gifts. I've added a Southern Grind Jackal Pup to my EDC, blade slightly under 3", stays sharp and harder than woodpecker lips. My wife and I also have small key chain folders that take exacto knife blades we bought from a local company here in communist held Colorado that have been through TSA many times without comment, probably because they've never been recognized as knives. They are spendy but pretty slick, I don't remember the name of the company but will try and get a picture out later.

I've owned but never really habitually carried a SAN, I never found a combo I really liked and they could be a little bulky and fragile to carry when I only ever used the blade. I never really found them useful with a blade, so maybe they would have their place without one, but probably not with me. The only use I've ever found for the corkscrew on those things is when I've gotten them as gifts I, or the giver, can point it out and say 'look, it's even got a corkscrew!', which almost always resulted in a smile or nod of approval.

I see I'm not the only one whose first stop after getting off the plane is somewhere where I can get a knife. I always have, either on me or easily accessible: knife, keys, wallet, phone, and sidearm if legal. And- I will not carry a knife that does not have a locking blade. That's a personal preference- but if you've ever had a folding knife close on your finger you would understand.

Here's a funny about the UK guns- especially for you .22 knockers. The main underground guns used there are cheaper .22lr target pistols. Someone told me the brand, but my bout with Long Covid left me with a few gifts. I will try and find out again.

"Like the person in the article says, a tool for cyclists, who probably don't need a blade."

I've been a cyclist for many years. How's a cyclist supposed to cut the cheese at lunch with no knife blade?

I've had a folder close on my hand and I'm cringing thinking about it. My daughter went on a hike with a bunch of friends when she was a late teen and the hike went long, turns out she was the only one in the group that had a flashlight (other than on her phone) and they all thought she was some sort of freak because she actually had a flashlight AND a knife on her. They were all happy to follow her lone beam out of the woods though.

The problem is that from the view of the 'Sheeple' it is like a gun, you don't need a knife because they don't carry one... I guess the reality is that most people really don't work for a living... I mean actually have to use their hands to repair and fix things and it seems never have to cut something. As I get old I'm beginning to realize that humanity as a whole is just plan stupid.

As far as the useless corkscrew goes, where else are you going to put the eyeglass screwdriver?
